FIRST FULL BETA RELEASE

FIRST BETA RELEASE WHOOOOO

This version isn't entirey polished but you can play through it! There are few bug fixes and probably a lot of bugs on the way, but that should not deter you brave souls!

Packaged here is two exes with two different styles to handle 'slowdown'. One skips frames, the other slows down. Frame skipping can be buggy at times, but I would highly recommend it for the final boss and ending.

As a note, the ending occasionally bugs. If during it some strange stuff happens and you hear some weird sounds, press R. I'll try and track down this problem soon and upgrade the exes.

Release is a big bugged and you'll see the last boss portrait if you beat another. I'm going to to reupload. I suggest you redownload in a bit, but it's not critical

Got to the first new boss, died and my save stuck me in the ground. Waiting for Kefit to get there real fast, just gonna get his save.

At first the new area felt a little wonky, but as soon as I got used to how it worked...man, it's fantastic.

Yeah, I've got the same thing. My feet are a couple pixels in the ground, and I can't move or jump. I can turn around and shoot just fine, and it makes the jump noise when I press the button, but nothing happens.)

I was playing the frame skipping one, and I managed to get myself stuck.

When I was on the trolley heading toward the Guy's Palace, I hit the save point at the sign that said "7500KM to Guy's Palace". After that, I got stuck inside the wall with the vines and I had to restart in file 2 (it was close by, in the fan room)
I tried doing that part again in slowdown, which feels much more natural. I managed to get inside the Guy's fortress.

Quick summary: Slowdown mode is superior for my piece o' crap computer. :)

Okay, I think I got a fix. Have the player start HIGHER. I'm going to start uploading soon. Conversely if anyone needs a fixed save, upload your save here.

I also got stuck in the ground pre-boss save. But, I pressed "j" to bypass that, wink. Fun boss.. Although, I'm at the Labyrinth and I swear to God there's no way that doesn't lead to a kill screen. there's one on the left, one (or two) on the bottom, and one (or two) on the right. I swear I've been everywhere, aaaaahh.

Also, the second two holes you see (on Labyrinth of The Guy screen) your character sprite appears behind them instead of in front of them. Dumbest bug I can possibly bring to light.

That said, new versions are up for redownload.

These won't FIX save problems, but they'll prevent them. so if you got a problem, post it up in support and I'll fix your save.

I am going to say fuck it and goodnight, as this is the 5th time that my game has locked up on me when the large **** boss appears with FUCKING RANDOMIZED ATTACKS THAT NEVER HIT THE SAME PLACE TWICE.

That "error" Ryu room?  Using Vista kinda makes it obvious...although I don't know if there's a way to fix that.


Very well done, and I look forward to beating it and never posting here again after I do.

EDIT: Also, during posting the above message I had to review it 3 times owing to new posts.  WTF.  Wonder how many I'll have to review after this...

OK, after trying the final boss again, I got to his second form second stage (the contra-esque spinny laz0rz) and was doing good until the program it froze.  Unless there's like horribly many forms after this one I claim sovreignity over this game due to the fact that I can't fight the final boss in safety at ANY time.  The freezing of my program is a worse enemy than any  :fruit:

It's probably low priority, but after ninjaing that savefile from earlier in the thread, I noticed some boulders(which should now probably be included in the smilie menu, damn their rocky souls) that would arrive in rooms (the second room of the labyrinth, left side rock to be precise) above their entry point, passing gleefully and willfully through walls and over gaps in a straight line.

Again, though - frackin' awesome game and my only complaint is the lack of a Kirby boss.

lol I thought the Magikoopa was a boss, then I died immediately.

Took me like 3 tries to get to the Magikoopa only to think "wow, he's someplace I shouldn't go".

Then I turn off iTunes and turn on the sound and sure enough I hear a loud BZZZZT next time.

Also try the "help shit run better option'. It might help keep things steady by removing some occupancy effects.

If you slay the evil save it become a real one. Also, I didn't mean form. Sorry, I was dumbz. but theres one more sequence. Two forms, 3 sequences each.

I know you can kill it, it's just annoying to come so far after trying for so long only to have something that's kinda hard to examine closely turn out to be ALMOST like something you've been happy to see for so long, but then you die.

And after I post this I'm unpausing and attacking the last eyeball I'll EVER have to shoot in this game :D

Happy? No.. The final climax was one of emotion evoked by emotional ties. Like a romantic comedy.. fun in the beginning sad at the end. Good bye game.. good bye. I will miss you.. forever.

I closed the game after saving at the final tower to go do something else, and now my save isn't reloading properly.  When I try, the screen goes to another brownish area with platforms and spikes and seems to get stuck.  It looks like it's stuck in an infinite "Load Frame X" event.  This didn't happen when I just reloaded from a death with R, only when I actually restarted the game and reloaded the save.  Is this a bug that can be fixed, or is there another save I can use at that point?

Great work on the whole palace though.  I loved the entire Hall, and the Labyrinth.

Awesome. I'm a glutton for punishment. On the back of the expected success of IWBTG I'd imagine you will eventually have a large enough audience to unleash the next wave of 8-bit masochism on the world!

I'm intrigued by this labyrinth (I'm downloading the beta now) as it seems to be one of these 'classic moments' people talk about in Zelda games. I eagerly await the final area.

Can't help but notice how little cheering for Kayin is taking place on this thread. Let's all congratualate him for his momentous finish to this wonderfully evil game.
As much as we're happy that we've now beaten the guy, coding and debugging is arguably more aggravating than the game itself. So great work man, a job well done: whatever's higher than the guy, you are it! :fruit:

There, the teeming masses of the weak, the unskilled, the noob, the scrub… Like mindless sheep they played their Final Fantasy’s, and their Halo’s, and their Zelda’s.  For a time, they found many of their desires fulfilled.  Wonderful graphics, sound and (some would say) game play continued to meet their every lowering standards, and to these poor unenlightened souls all was good.

But something was missing.  These creatures, all willing to squawk, mouths agape, waiting and crying out for the mighty Companies to vomit sustenance…  These creatures didn’t know it, but in their very hearts they longed for something more.  A certain, secret need was left unmet.  Though few dared speak it, all knew it. 

They needed to be challenged!  As it stood, games failed to test the worthiness of their players.   All could play, that was true… but with such games none could excel!  Glory was an impossibility because it was, technically, and inevitability. 

It seemed hopeless.  But when it seemed that games would never satiate that hidden need, when the desire for truly won Victory was at it’s most needed… a Savior came. 

The world needed IWBTG, and Kayin brought it to them.  Though there would be those that oppose it, those that continue to stand aghast at the prospect that games might finally be what they should be, what they always should have been… they would know that the Truth had come.  They would either test their mettle or, in failing, vindicate at last the sheer worthlessness of their existence.

IWBTG is ready for you, but are The People ready for IWBTG?  Time will tell, as the men, The Guy(s) are separated from those weaklings that continue to suckle the bitter milk of modern gaming.



I'm very proud of Kayin for seeing this most noble project through to its conclusion.  God knows how many pet projects I've been a part of that died far, far before anything resembling an entire legitimate game had been created.  I think IWBTG is the first step on a long, arduous, yet enjoyable road of creation that will likely become more than a simple hobby. 

Way to fucking go!

It’s crazy to think that this project is less than a year old.  I fondly remember the initial stages of design, where my frustration was not a side effect, but a goal.  I remember testing Tyson out on during my break… it’s amazing to see how far it’s come since then.

If you can beat The Guy, you can beat Very Hard.  All the challenges of Very Hard are still easier than The Guy.

I beat the Guy, and I still can't beat the stupid Very Hard section that's the entire spike-filled graveyard + Birdo.  I was always terrible at spike mazes though.

I wound up getting pretty good at that moving spike corridor thanks to that lack of saves, and the only thing I routinely died on after that corridor was either Birdo or the warhead jump afterwards.  It still only took me 2 or so hours, as opposed to the 9 it took me to beat The Guy.

Some countries seem to have trouble downloading from Megaupload like Singapore, Malaysia, France, etc.

I can't download the new update.
this post says this new version is version 1.-1.2
the one on the main download page say 1.0.0
when i try to download it from the start of the post, it gives me a 404 error...
plz help!!!

I Wanna be the Guy: The Movie: The Game is one of the best (and one of the most piss-you-off frustrating) 2D platformers i have ever played in my whole life. But, let me give you some criticism. And no, i'm not trying to be a hypocrite, i realize my own game is flawed (very, very flawed....)

Ok, so, for the second form of the final boss, The Father, where you have to shoot his eyeballs to kill him.....why do i die if i jump into his mouth? I can understand that he is big enough to eat The Kid, but the fact that i just touch his mouth and i explode into a bunch of red pixels......at least have him chew me to death and swallow me, not just dying from touching his mouth. Besides that, i love this game.

I give IWBTG 10/10

If you ever make IWBTG2, i'll look forward to it.

I would assume that Kayin removed the beta versions for download after later versions were released. You can go here to download the latest slomo
