holy shit, looks great! Graphics are stunning, I hope the same for the music because I really appreciate music in 8-bit games! Looks like castlevania, so it could be great! I think I'll be able to get it :D

( Maybe you should use a more dark-blue color for the character, that one doesn't look very good )

I hope it has some sort of humor like IWBTG. Obviously not in the same way, maybe with funny dialogue or something.

The palette for the game is fairly close to the NES palette, with a few modifications to the 52 available colors. Part of the defining characteristic of 8-bit graphics is you almost never have the perfect color. for a given thing. Though on another note, I wouldn't make it darker anyways because it's important for the character to pop against the background and the player is often against dark or black backgrounds.

While there is a little humor in the dialog, the game is generally pretty serious.

That's fine, I trust your game-making skills. If you disappoint I'll ask for a refund.

Maybe I didn't expressed myself good ( my english is not very good ). I mean programming language, you know, Java, C++, GML.. or you used again MMF2? :D
You don't need to be a hacker to know programming languages :P

Also he was saying he was a hack.

I believe it was construct.

i dont understand, you mean, who, me?

no idea what are you talking about. is maybe there a difference between "hack" and "hacker" (reffering both to a person, since he said someone and not about the game to be a hack) ?

Hack: A writer or journalist producing dull, unoriginal work

Or basically someone who is bad or mediocre at what they do.

I see. So, in what programming language was it written?

Post by: Kayin on September 27, 2011, 04:29:24 pm
I'm saying I'm a hack -- a joke in reference to the fact that I can't actually program. I'm making it in construct, which isn't a programming langage at all, but like MMF2, some visual kitty shit for, well, hacks like me.

But english clearly isn't your first language, so sorry about being so nit picky!

Wait, this isn't a prequel to IWBTG! RABBLERABBLERABBLE >:(

In all seriousness, though, this looks to be a fun and interesting title to pick up once it's finished, and $5 as a price point ain't bad.

Did you ever find the 8-bit fire effects you needed?

Will there be some sort of controller/keybind feature? Just out of curiosity.

I'm aware that Joy2Key is a thing, however.

I know this is somewhat old, but do we have a tentative release date yet? I feel like Kayin has to be pretty close with finishing it, I'm just curious if we'll have it for 2016 or if we're going to wait till 2017 to play xD I'm going to dig up my old steam info just to play this. It reminds me of like early castlevania or like faxanadu which were both some great games but I feel like I'd enjoy this more I can't wait much hype plz hurry, haha.

Is the game still being made in Construct? Or has Kayin moved on to an engine with a programming language, while still keeping da same graphics?

The game was far too deep in construct by the time I decided construct sucked so its there. tentative release date, very early 2017 between January and march I think.

Don't trust him. He is a terrible developer and anyone with a three digit IQ already knows that by now.
The game is most likely going to be a 2 hour long Castlevania ripoff that won't bring anything new to the table. Your legacy is long gone and releasing this horrible mess will only make things worse for your already miserable career, Mike.

Eh more like 4-5,  at least on the first playthrough

I guess 4-5 hour Castlevania "ripoff," I'm game.

Btw don't know if I have the same opinion as many, but this looks way better than most Castle/Metroidvania indie games I've seen; I tend to over-hype anything appealing with trailers, but this looks indubitably promising.

Well I mean, mechanically it totally is a ripoff. At least when playing as Naomi. And artistically its very "Anime CV" (so Rondo) but in terms of gameplay style, I'd say its pretty different. It has some Ninja Gaiden spice thrown in (not so much with difficulty or unfairness but NG and BEP have enemies that move more aggressively) and a level design style that's a bit more platformy. A cool comment I've gotten unprompted from several people who've played it is it feels like one continuous world? Like there is a sense of place and structure thats noteworthy... which I love hearing, because I feel like if I have any strength as a game designer its my level design (because lets be real, mechanically I've never done anything particularly interesting. I've only stolen things that would be interesting)
