So... A long ass time ago (not that long ago actually, maybe a year) I read this article displaying the information that homophobic men were particularly aroused by gay porn, and non-homophobic men were barely, or aroused very little by it. I never really thought anything of this article until now (I thought of it while I was taking a shower a few minutes ago... probably looking at my penis) but it sparked up a story in my head that totally applies to me.
So, remember when I first joined this forum? I was in 7th grade, and a was a fucking douchebag piece of shit. But the important thing here is how strongly I displayed homophobic traits. I remember being called homophobic by people on this forum and actually admitting that I was. I was also very against homosexuals in my real social life and such also, but anyways... Once I got a bit older I evolved out of that stage and begin severely insulting anyone who even acted or said anything against gays. THEN I began doing things more inside of the Metrosexual culture (such as dressing differently and shaving my entire body, which I still do. lol) and REALLY gay towards homophobic people to piss them off. And late last year, I began realizing and accepting the fact that I am actually bisexual, and have at least sort of liked men all along... The point of this story was to go back to when I was really homophobic and always bashed on gay people, and then look at now, where I'm practically gay... I found this really funny.
What do you guys think, are most guys who "hate" gays actually closet homosexuals trying to repress urges and trying to look tough or fit in, or are the studies and my story just coincidences?

I believe the article you're referring to refers to a "study" done on a very small number of men who also self-reported...neither of which lead to particularly reliable results. Provide this study or I'm going to discount it for that, as I know there was a study like that that showed extremely obvious and prevalent flaws.

I could try to find it but I didn't read it lately so I'm not sure where it is. :3
EDIT: It was a small number of men (64) and the "homophobia" was determined by a survey. Obviously it's flawed but it's practically impossible to study a subject like this without flaws.

There's still an awful taboo against open homosexuality in Western culture today. I've seen people just like Lion before, boys who secretly had homosexual desires (I'd know since some came on to me) but acted extremely homophobic out in public. This is understandable because kids at the 12-14 age are in sort of a "retarded" zone where they feel a really strong need to fit in and since gays are still looked down upon in the public today they try their best to convince others that they are straight.
However, most gays do become more open about their sexual feelings when they become teenagers and adults. It's homophobic adults that I can't stand.
As for me personally, I will admit that I went through stages of denial at age 13, although I wasn't particularly homophobic. However, my current high school has some of the most liberal students and teachers I've ever met and I've pretty much become really open about my sexuality after I turned 15.

The first part of your story sounds very familiar, Lion. I used to be slightly homophobic when I was a teenager, but since then I've certainly matured, and I even have a good friend who's openly gay. I do have a girlfriend, and I doubt I'm a closet homosexual or bisexual, nor do I have any metrosexual aspects aside from wanting to stay clean (no, I don't shave anything but my beard) and disliking sweating (when not doing sports or something like that). I also oppose homophobia these days. I don't, however, like the kind of homosexual people who force their sexuality down other people's throats. I can't recall the term for such people, but what I mean are usually homosexual celebrities, something like Adam Lambert. He's definitely not from the worst end, though. No, I actually think that was a bad example. I wish I was better at urban English terms :P
In my opinion, homophobia is as simple as the phenomenon of people bullying disabled and/or persons of different ethnic background. It's a primitive fear of something new or different, neophobia.
