Title: Super Smash Bros. (N64, Melee, and BRAWL)
Post by: Xylon Lionheart on October 21, 2007, 08:31:41 pm
This board needs a thread, so here we go.  Here is where we discuss everything that has to do with Super Smash Bros.  You can talk about what characters you liked to use or stages that you particularly hating.  You can also talk about the daily updates on the SSBB site.

So yeah.  Ike's Final Smash is the coolest one I've seen so far.

One of my testers and I were really into serious Melee for a while. As a Ganon player I'm sort of worried about him and Brawl. He'll probably changed enough for me to lose interest. Ike looks the most promising. I like power character and Marth with big POW really appeals to me.

From what I understand, if you like Ganondorf, you'll love Ike.

What characters did everyone play in Melee? I played Peach and Zelda. Yes, Zelda. Not so much Sheik.

Mostly Ganon, though I could kind of play Shiek too. Occasionally I messed around with Falcon, G&W and DK.

I don't really have a best character.  Sometimes what seems to be my best character turns around and becomes terrible for me.

Anyway, I need to practice aerial grabs.  Those are great for Heart Containers.

I was the tester Kayin mentioned.  His Ganon vs. Warbosspuffamungus (fuck you cretins; the jigglypuff is awesome) was some serious gaming.  When Brawl comes out, I'll likely get a Wii.

EVERYONE.

Actually I used Peach most, but often used Pichu or Luigi because I love self destructive comedy.

I sometimes like to use Kirby, eat people, and jump off the edge.

My best two would probably have to be Peach and Ice Climbers.

Friends always hated me when I used Ice Climbers because I'd always manage to become even more annoying to fight when they killed the other one. :3

Man, even with just the bare essentials making a IWBTG stage should be pretty easy.

But yes, I'm making a stage that is almost all spikes with apples of doom as soon as I get this.

I uses pretty much all the characters regularly. I used to main with Kirby, until everyone hopped on the Sheik train. Because of that, I had to focus on  using Fox or Falco. I'm really looking forward to using Pit, Sonic, and Kirby in Brawl.

If you are assuming that Ike and Marth handle the same because they are from the same series and they both have blue hair, you would be very, VERY wrong.

I deny your logic. Hair is clearly the defining factor for the powers of warriors.
Cleary, if  :kid: had blue hair, he would wield the powers of Ike and Marth, giving him access to swordplay and b-down countering against spikes. Also, if he had Chuck Norris' beard, you could roundhouse kick the Game Over screen and kill every boss with a thought.

What I meant by what I said is that Ike handles like he was a long-ranged Ganondorf rather than Marth.

I liked Melee.  Adventure mode was a very nice twist  :D (100-man Melee was a pain in the @$$ to do without Donkey Kong  :P ).

I normally play as either Dr. Mario or Yoshi, but playing as Jigglypuff, Fox, and Marth/Roy is fun also.  :)

And on behalf of the Doc...

HERE TAKE A PILL!!!!!!!  XD

Or just use Lucas.  They're similar enough.

Perhaps, but they might just be recycling the animations from the previous baddies: the wireframes. I doubt that they cut Falcon, though. He's just too awesome.

Who doesnt? Those 'tournyfags' deserve it getting removed.
And of course it wasnt a feature, its like in gunz. M-Style was a glitch exploit, so is Wall Canceling, Slash Shot, Half Step, Even insta-flip and butterfly.

But in gunz, they don't remove those, as being able to do them doesn't really add anything to your skill level, you can have a n00b butterflying, but they'll still suck. Unlike wavedashing/SHFFLing in SSBM.

It's not like you can predict every glitch and every small thing that goes wrong. Release dates are glorified estimates.

And besides, I'd rather wait and get a glitch-free game than get a glitch-filled game quick.

Anyway, the secret characters...
The natural reaction is "AAAGH THESE SUCK" but Sonic and Snake apparently have to be unlocked.
So just pretend they're secret and you don't know about them yet and shh

Edit: However, Fox, Falco AND Wolf all being in the game is fail. D: I blame Tourneyfags.

PROTIP: Tourneyfags are going to use friendcodes to play with each other. The random "with anyone" matches are always 2min time matches with 4 people or 2v2. Using friend codes you can play how ever you want with whoever you want. So don't worry dsk you can play with all the other casual players in the "with anyone" mode

I'd say my favorite char and best for most brawl situations is Dedede...unless its like goin against marth and ike, 2nd up would prolly be Pit and ike a distant 3rd, just started learning to like Peach and Zero Suit Samus more.

FC is 4725-7737-1512 if anyone wants to play, i'm always tryin to expand the friend roster so i can login and play ppl that arent anon 2min brawls more often.

Primary characters:

Yoshi <3

Toon Link
Ike  (although it's kinda random if I play well with him or not)
Sonic
Kirby

Secondary Characters:

Ice Climbers
Luigi (cause I suck as him ATM D=)
Mario
Peach
Falco
Marth

Characters I should play as, but need practice with (:P)

King Dedede
Meta Knight

Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. (N64, Melee, and BRAWL)

Some were well deserved (Sheik, Fox), others not so much (Ganon, Jigglypuff). Some were boosted for no good reason (Marth).

Dedede and Charizard have the best taunts in game, as like Game & Watch, they are guaranteed to illicit anger from your opponent.

It really doesn't serve a purpose, but I can just see someone getting really pissed off on the other side of the screen. :P

So I was Diddy Kong and my friend was Toon Link.  We were playing on that test map the one called hole-something-or-another.  You know the one.

Well anyway, there was this platform at the edge of the map moving left or right.  I hit my friend off of the ledge and then threw a banana peel onto the platform.  He was absolutely convinced that said banana could not kill him.  He was terribly wrong.  He tripped OFF of the platform to his doom.  :)

EDIT:  Ah yeah, anyone just love how in the original you could smack people down with down-A attacks and whatnot?  I'm glad they took that away from most (almost all) characters in the last two games, but it was always fun for pissing people off.

Okay, so anyway. We were on New Pork City, and I was starting to build up a lead. We only had 3 lives each, but I was already up like 70% to 20%. Then he broke the breakable floor and we both fell to our dooms.
2-2. Then he started stomping me. He pummeled me and smashed me off the right side of the screen, and he only had like 31% damage.
1-2. I managed to hit him with a lightning kick, and then a Smash Ball appeared. Grabbed it and unleashed a Light Arrow to his face, although he got me to like 60% damage first.
1-1. I changed to Sheik to be able to dodge better, and ran around a little bit. Anther Smash Ball appears, I grab it, trap him in the standard attack thing that goes really fast and unleash another Light Arrow to his face.
1-0. I burst out laughing. He wouldn't let me play anymore.

The only way to get out is by having someone get an item (star, airship pieces) to get out and cause the blocks to fall. Then you have about 5-10 seconds to knock the others out. I won @ the 18 minute mark. It's crazy when you're locked inside and you bounce off a wall like 10 times :D

I made a stage similar to that, except mine is larger and it has 3 holes in the ceiling.  You could escape it if you wanted to by taking the side-to-side moving platforms (WHY THE PUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT YA EMO!!! YOU WANNA DIE OR SOMETHING!?!!?  lol ;p)

I put in a pair of random staircases with spikes underneath them.  It's always fun watching the computer players get scewered constantly by them spikes. :D  Okay, most of the time it is.

Two more brawl stories from me. :D

1)  A few days ago while playing I picked up the Fan item (it's kinda useful).  But then the unexpected happened!!  I mashed the A button repeatedly and eventually I was smacking every opponent. XD  It went on for about 15 seconds until we all started falling off the edge.

2)  Today in my custom stage, I was enjoying some good old coin battlage (and made a coin battle-specific stage cause I  wanted too ;p).  Unfortunately, I normally don't fair well in those.  So after losing 4 matches in a row, on my custom stage, there's this small section where there are two-sets of 4 spike platforms, tightly closed together (one directly below the other) at the bottom of the stage.  After getting KO'd twice, I finally said "Fuck this!" and let myself (I was playing as Pit) get completely raped by the lower set of spikes.

Needless to say I won.  I went from about 63 coins to about 820 in 30 seconds. XD

Now THAT'S how you win a coin battle. ;p

3)  I seem to have the worst luck in All-Star mode... especially as Sonic.  I usually end up running too fast off-screen and get killed... ESPECIALLY ON THE FIRST 5 STAGES!!!  How annoying....  Even if it is funny....

Mario(Why? :'( )
Sonic(My bro kept going after me only...)
Olimar(I dunno, he's good to me...)
Ganondorf(I am good with him, but I HATE playing as him)

Jigglypuff has been my main for quite a while now on all three occasions, but I used to go the extra distance to kick ass by playing as Pichu in Melee. My secondary main belongs to Luigi. Tertiary mains include Mr. Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, Lucario, Link, Snake, and Sonic. Quartiary mains would include everybody else.

After revisiting Melee, I decided to use Pichu just to show off. Pichu is a downgraded version of Pikachu, because it deals damage to itself whenever it uses certain attacks. If you're really the Smash Master, you use Pichu in melee.
