Title: Worst experience in IWBTG? (SPOILER-HEAVY)
Post by: redrampager on March 16, 2008, 05:43:28 pm
What was the worst experience you've ever had in IWBTG?  List multiple ones if you can't think of just one.  :D

Mine was
: show
in the Megaman 2 area after Kraidgief, I spent a lot of time pondering whether to go right (to the lasers) or down (to the spike drop and metroid.) I went down, got it on my first try (Very Hard mode) and as I walked through the door to the area with the disappearing blocks, I got killed by a Geemer that had walked up from the Metroid stage.  It took me about 20 more deaths to get it.  -_-

How about you guys?  I know there has to be a lot of them.

Oh boy, this is going to be a popular topic.

My worst experience would have to be the first time I beat The Guy,
my comp screwed up during the credits and the portrait didn't show up.
Luckily after a maddened tirade I look on the forums and felt stupid about
the fact that it was a quick and simple fix.  It wasn't that bad afterall.

The reason that I stopped playing... My comp fucked up and my save dissapeared. At the Dragon Devil.

I killed the 6 bosses to get to The Guy's castle.

Then it says I only killed two of them.
I got irritated, then went "hardcore", starting a new save file and only taking 5 hours to get to The Guy's castle.

Then spent 5-8PM in The Guy's castle.

Then spent 8-10:30PM fighting The Guy.
Then spent 10:30-11:15-ishPM fighting him again because his portrait didn't show up.

Probably going through the whole graveyard and having mecha Birdo freeze up every fucking time I fought her!!! And right now I have a quick question, how the fuck do you double jump after wall jumping off the yellow and black walls? I'm pressing the jump button but I won't freaking jump. I just ripped out my R key trying to get the couch secret item cause I won't fucking double jump.
Title: Re: Worst experience in IWBTG? (SPOILER-HEAVY)
Post by: Supa on March 16, 2008, 07:09:30 pm
You have to save your second jump. Jump once onto the hazard stripe, then continue on, then when you have to double jump, use your second jump and voila, there you go.

For me, the hardest part was definitely the first time I went through the Ghosts and Goblins area. It took me more than 600 tries to get past the whole thing. That was the area that I started to lose it. The second hardest part was Dracula, I was just extremely frustrated because I suck at dodging his double pearl attack. Other than that, none of the other areas made me swear at it.

Sequence 3 of the cart ride to the castle. I always seemed to get caught up at the very beginning or the very end of that segment.

Dude...  ouch.

I didn't have much trouble with the GnG area.  I mean I DID, in particular the dancing spikes and the Ninja Gaiden birds, but after a while, you just fall into this zen trance state where  you just do it.

Also the razor cliff.  That thing made me almost jump out of my seat and thrash my computer.

Almost.

Mike Tyson. I couldn't stand him, since he was my first boss fight >_< I eventually learnt the pattern, but I wasn't used to bosses as hard as that one ;D (And yes, I know he was the easiest one xD)

Also, I used the S key to skip some animations during the fight. It's handy at the beginning, but after that it resets the battle every time you press it :(

Willy was a pain in the ass too. Bowser and Wart were really easy, but you had to play through them every single time you got killed fighting Willy, and that sucked >_< Specially when, at first, I thought you couldn't hurt him while he was dropping the ball (Since I kept trying to do it from the left side of the platform, and it was out of range)...

Oh, and Kirby's Nightmareland before I learnt how to walljump properly (Instead of keeping Shift pressed, I pressed it just before jumping. So it was a lot harder, but I still managed to do it... Except for the last jump, which is when I learnt how to do it properly, a bit too late >_<).

Even though Mother Brain was the hardest part of the game for me, it certainly wasn't the worst experience.

I have 3 I could pick from;

1) MineCart Ride - 3rd section:  I ended up saving right in front and slightly above the 1st block at the first set of ropes/vines, and half the time I got stuck on that block.  The next 40% was me never making it to the next set of vines.  So 90% of the time I basically spent pressing R for no real reason other than generally stupidity for that 40% >_>  (This is back on the old frame-skip version, one of the first releases of the game)

2) Kirby's "Dream" Land:  That section isn't even hard... but still, I died Died dIed diEd dieD DIED!!!!  Frustration on something easy usually leads to terrible gaming experience.

3) Koopa Klown Kar:  Stupid bowling ball....  I don't remember the last time I used swear words so much in my life... or had such a hard time jumping. :P

On a random note, the best experience in the game for me was fighting Dracula in all his random gloryness. :D

No contest for me. The spike corridor in the GnG area.
It made me quit the game for a month and a half, I go so frustrated. I probably would've quit the game for good if I hadn't been active here, lol.

The only other parts I had real trouble with were Mother Brain and Dracula on Very Hard, simply because you weren't allowed to make a single mistake in the entire area or you'd go back to the start.
Title: Re: Worst experience in IWBTG? (SPOILER-HEAVY)
Post by: Dagnarok on March 17, 2008, 02:04:08 pm
I guess I can throw in one more. :P

4)  Vic Viper Room:  WHY DID I DIE SO MANY FUCKING TIMES IN THAT ROOM!?!?!!  WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!?!!!?!!?  I can't explain why I kept dying in there... I just... did....  And all I did was move backwards....  :'( :'( :'( :'(

The hardest part for me was learning how to wall jump.
I spent a whole hour and a half jumping around like
a retard until I finally got it.  Then I got to the place
right before Kraidgief and had a heart attack.

Nowadays I can get to Kraidgief with no deaths.
Feel so proud. :D

I think the only real reason I haven't had all these problems myself was probably because I have the slomo.  And from playing Life Force and the like, I knew to avoid the walls when I saw Vic Viper.

Also, on Wily's second tirade (after he launches the first ball) If you just stay midway between the middle and the right of the platform, give or take a few steps, his fireballs eventually go on either side of you and you don't have to move.  :D  Only way I was really able to beat him.

Christ the guy is hard...

It comes as a tie between Dracula's section on Very Hard, and the GnG section on Very Hard, both of which have such freaking spaced out save points.  When I learned I wouldn't be allowed to save right before Dracula... I died a little on the inside.  He always was the hardest boss to me; now, he's even harder for me to beat than The Guy is, I think.

And GnG... do I have to explain?  But like I've said countless times on these forums: I've got the spike corridor down.  But basically because I played it OVER 9000 times on Medium to practice up for Very Hard.  But that was really the only section I felt the need to "practice," haha...

But one of the worst experiences... freezing up by the time you get to Birdo in Very Hard (which happened all too frequently), being unable to get to a particular secret item because I hadn't downloaded the right version... man, I've got tons.

Mother Brain. Hands-f**king down.
I have never "raged" from a game before, but the danged Metroid section was basically laughing at me the whole time... I felt a great weight lift from my self as I delivered the final blow to her... Mass.

Fucking Wily.

I can get through Bowser easily, and sometimes with some issues with Wart, since my trigger finger isn't what it used to be anymore.

Wily and his god damn bowling balls and his fire flowers and all of that shit.

And the Mega Man lasers...I have nightmares of Quick Man when I go to sleep now.

Same here. I was so happy I tried to rush out of her room to save, and got killed by the explosion so I had to kill her again ;D

Still, it wasn't my worst experience in the game, not at all. I actually think I enjoyed it, just like the Guy fight :P

Mother Brain is a pain in the neck. It would be easy without the fireballs, or the lava, or the target-seekers, but not with all three at the time.

Some parts like the Tetris area and the disappearing block segments gave me trouble, but once you learn the pattern they're easy.

I'd say the hardest part is the second Kirby area after the Tetris puzzle. Those climbable walls just fuck me up over and over...I got through this one through sheer luck and would seriously rather beat The Guy again rather than re-play that area.

Because I saw a couple of vids on youtube it took me like only 20-30 tries to beat the GUY, but then the friggin portrait didn't show!! ARGH

Then it took me about 300 more tries before I killed him again  >:(

New worst experience.  Or at least on par.

In the minecart ride, I shot myself off of the caution railing onto the corner of the minecart, which, by some horrible twisted logic, sent me rocketing at a bed of spikes.

FIVE FREAKING TIMES.

for the longest time, i always shot too slowly and ended up just giving up on blowing up the stupid thing and did a tricky jump where i ran off the left side of the platform just as the bullet went over me, then at the last second double jumped back onto the platform. This actually works, but DAMN is it hard to time just right. It makes that boss fight take twice as long due to restarts.

I didn't read all of the posts so I don't know if this happened to anyone else.  Anyway, I think I have the worst.  I beat The Guy and was so proud of myself, watching the credits roll.  Then just as Tyson pops up on the credits, my game freezes up.  I have a video of it on YouTube right here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=X_HrNWLk4aM.

Another time that kind of sucked, if you don't think that that sucked enough was the time when I had the perfect opportunity to finish The Guy.  He had one eye left, the homing balls were far away, he just shot his teeth and a fire ball ABOVE me and I had open shots at the last eye.  Game = frozen.  :'(

Either way I ended up beating The Guy twice.  :kid:

Kirby's Dreamland. Wall jumping. I was playing like it was megaman x for I don't know how long. Medium mode, but I must have died at least 400 times there.

And the very very last jump in that tunnel of moving spikes

No boss was a bad experience for me. Well, the dragon was sort of a "nightmare" for me because back in the days of my youth me and my bro rented megaman 2 over and over again and we never got past him. But then I beat him in IWBTG, and the nightmare was finally over. Now I'm going to go back someday and play and beat megaman 2 and then I can die a happy man the guy.

Post by: Jish on April 15, 2008, 03:34:34 pm
^ That's weird, because I always thought that dragon was a complete joke. I've never had a problem with it in MM2.

My worst experiences come down to these:

4) My first fight against Mother Brain. Tears were shed, swears were uttered, and things were broken - particularly my spirit. I can now do that fight pretty reliably, but the first time before I learned exactly how to do it was just horrible.

3) The very first time I played the game, I tried taking the lower path, but it didn't seem to be be possible to get past the third spike wall. And at this point I thought it was a linear game, so I then realized there must be some other path. I discovered the path to the left (somehow I never realized you could go up), and so that was the first path I ever took. The Snifit room was pretty tough, Tetris was even worse, and then I got to the Kirby part. That took several hours to pass, the cave was even worse, and then - OH GOD, GIANT GREEN MR. T WITH KRAID MUSIC! I know now that it's Zangief, but I thought it was supposed to be Mr. T. He took roughly five hours to beat.

2) Master Higgins item room. It took like an hour to get to the top hallway the first time, and then I really looked at the bouncing eggplants and realized how I'd have to run between them and stop so precisely to not get hit, and I died a little inside. Much later, I finally got past those, the item was straight ahead... and then the floor broke and I died. I don't think I've ever yelled at a game like that before - I was about ready to find the nearest living thing and kill it.

1) Very Hard mode GnG segment. Before the most recent version, you had to get through that whole area, AND the Birdo fight, AND the room after it with the warhead all in one go. The moving spike hall wasn't so bad after a while, but the one in the room after it with the moving platform and the 300 things that fall was. The very first time I reached Birdo was also the time I beat it, and it was VERY stressful because I had only beaten Birdo once before on Hard. And I had K mapped to the jump button, so by the time I reached it, the antenna was already broken. I had never fought it with the antenna before. When I got to the warhead room I nearly cried. I just couldn't believe it. But I managed to get out alright. I was completely soaked in sweat and shaking by the time I reached the save point. And best of all, I got it all recorded too. You can see it in my Very Hard run on youtube.

And I will never eat Spaghettios again.  :-X

Dr. Wily

Seriously, first time I got so far I had absolutely NO idea how to beat him and stopped playing IWBTG for some time, since it was frustrating to go through Bowser and Wart again. For me this is still the most annoying boss.

Mother Brain isn't that hard. In the beginning me too thought it's much too hard but it isn't that hard, now that I look at it.

oh god, where to start. first of all, diracula. the wourst part was when I actualy beat him "BEHOLD MY TRUE FORM AND DISPAIR!!!" and when he teleported to the center of the screen to transform, I happened to be in the middle at the time... I died, needless to say.
next up, wiley. I almost quit playing all together because of him. to make matters worse, I had to beat effing bowser and wart every attempt, who made it take hours longer.
I haven't comitted major time to mother brain, but so far, she's a pain just to get to, let alone beat.

my first troubling part was the GnG moving pikes, that took a while until i got it down in that said trance on page 1 of this topic, then my second hardest experience was mother brain, until i figured out u can shoot the damned spaghettios, i was so happy about that, and stupid for not trying previously, i eventually ended up doing it without shooting any of them, my third was the Dragon mine cart save glitch  that posted about in the save glitch topic forum thingy whatever, it pissed me off, but was funny getting the mine cart into the dragon fight, right now i am stuck at the guy himself so thats pissing me off, i plan to beat him soon, i know his pattern, he is actually really easy.........just like anything else when u have the pattern down.  :kid:

Mother Brain wasn't rage-inducing. Mother Brain was fairer than most of the other bosses. No random surprises, no nothing.

Well this is a broad question, because there are some parts that I used the slomo version to kick a boss's a**. The Guy I beat using slomo as Birdo too, which is why they were the easiest bosses ever. The hardest parts though was Mother Brain because of the spaghettios. I thought Clown Car boss was not hard, but annoying with the fact that if you die, you have to fight both forms AGAIN! The most annoying and hardest ever is the Mother Brain. My fingers hurt hitting the shoot button consistantly.

ok, I finaly beat mother brain (and I fortunately got the secret item in the area first. as far as I can tell, theres no way to get it after the place goes up in smoke(maybe that should be fixed)) that was annoying. the kart ride was wierd because of the whole "screen moving causes jumping to screw up and you to get stuck in blocks" thing, but otherwise easy, compared to the rest of the game. but the effing devil dragon is giving me one of the worst pains in the ass sence the koopa klown kar (in case you hadn't noticed, the initials for that are KKK. lol) that stupid yellow devil fire teleportation attack is virtualy imposible to dodge!

btw, I have five of the items, so I'm close. look for my name on the guy list soon.

My worst experience is most likely the time I first beat Mecha Birdo. When she started falling down, exploding and stuff i was like so happy and refieled...

Until. The area after Mecha Birdo apeeared and i saw the save point. I was just going to jump and.. "Multimedia Fusion 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
!!!
I was so angry. Almost trashed the computer. I was like:"Why did the fucking game have to crash Right Now?!?"

That was it. Took about 10 tries to defeat Birdo again. Got over it.

i actually thought mother brain was the easiest part of the game

probably because i play too much metroid

The reason that I stopped playing... My comp fucked up and my save dissapeared. At the Dragon Devil.

thats terrible!!!

and that's whole reason why you're being evil?

you're just taking out your anger over your save on us

(i forgive you. that has to suck.)

Worst experience thats hard its either Dracula or Mother fucking Brain.

Probably Mother Brain, it was hard on my first run and i can barely beat it on boss rush, Dracula was next too impossible first time but now he's just a pussy :P

While playing on very hard, getting through the moving spikes in the GnG area. That part made me want to rip someones intestines out. And when I got past that part, I died by touching a SIDE OF A SPIKE! I was so frustrated with it I just stopped playing the game for a while, then I played through it again, and made it past that part. I can do the screen after it no problem. That was the only frustrating part in the whole game for me, other than beating The Guy.

Right now I've collected all six units, Bowser was my last boss.

well, when i first started 2 play i got killed maby 50 times in the first room coz i didnt know wtf 2 do. then i found the upper patch, i was so happy. i ran and ran and ran..jumped on invisible stuff then i made it too the clouds..and it says "this is the safest room in iwbtg, press q 2 kill yourself" or something like that....it made me rly sad.

and when i first killed dracula, but died myself.

there is so much shit you get mad about in this game so it's just silly. can name 1000 more things

Ghouls 'n' Ghosts was pretty bloody annoying, but I just remember being in a dazed, incredulous stupor during Mother Brain.  It probably took me hours to beat her.  I don't know why.  Some people seem to have no trouble with that.

Probably spending 3+ hours fighting The Guy, finally beating him, getting to the credits, and then not doing anything about the apple because I thought The Kid, now being the Guy, would do something about it. Turns out he didn't, and he explodes, and I had to beat The Guy again. Which took another hour.

But meh, it still wasn't that bad.

My worst expierence was when I first started playing the game. Went to the upper lane. Took me waaaaayyy too much time to even get to the last screen before Tyson. (was so glad I actually almost was there).
Then, when I was jumping and shooting of joy I jumped wrong and dropped into that paper plane thingy.
Pressed R...
And got killed again by it immediately... Pressed R, paper plane.... R... paper plane...
I thought WTF (didn't know my bullet hit the savepoint after I was already falling into the abyss XD).
So restarted the game and again.... paper plane...
I was so frustrated I almost decided to stop playing, but luckily it eventually did not stop me from starting over :P....

That paper plane still haunts me in my nightmares I tell you... :(

So I played IWBTG a couple months back and got stuck on The Guy.  I gave it a couple weeks break and when I came back my save file was gone :(.

So I played back up to the guy and in my first night of attempts, around an hour or so of killing him-I beat him!!!!!

I was ecstatic, turned on sounds and music for the credits and was just happy as a clam.  Got to the end, stood under the tree, thought "hmm why's that apple falling?"  *Splat* Press R to return.....I was especially pissed cause a friend who had beaten the game before was in vent and didn't say anything and was just waiting for it to happen.

Anyway spent the last 2.5 hours beating him again ffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Greatest game I've ever played, most memorable and challenging gaming experience to date.  <3

Probably in the old version of the game, I was in the G&G section on Very Hard.  I had cleared the spike corridor, the zombies, and Birdo.  I made it passed those eggs, and IT FUCKING CRASHED WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE ORB!!!  I was so pissed that I actually deleted the game and my save.  However, now that I have the newer version, I beat the game on Very Hard.

Edit:  Finally found out what caused the crash.  If the sounds are off, it never lets you regain control of The Kid when you touch orbs.  I either keep the sound on or mute the whole computer now. :fruit:

Probably the
: show
Mother Brain battle. It's a combination of the spaghettios, the bullets, little place to stand, and dodging the former two CONSTANTLY. The boss itself is a paper sack to beat, but it HITS YOU FROM EVERYWHERE. It's a god-damned glass cannon. This is aggrivating, considering you're also a glass cannon. Without the cannon.
Also, the entire mine cart sequence gave me fits for some reason on my recent playthrough of Hard. I really don't understand why. It's got to be the fact that I kept getting stuck in blocks...

Oh god, worst experience's I had all were through my first time.

I took the upper path on my first time, and after FINALLY nearing the close on the games first checkpoint (playing on hard, med for nubs  :P) BAM! Those spikes from the heaven just fall on you shattering your hopes and dreams, I think I stared at the screen with my eyes and mouth open wide for a good fifteenth seconds.

Then of course da spike tunnel took be a good day to work out

Bosses kept falling until kraidgierf, which I eventually just gave up on and cheated on.

Then, Oh god, MOTHER BRAIN, tough as hell, I was forced to change the controls so I could change the button fast enough.

And then my worst fall...
After finally getting ALL THE WAY to THE GUY I saw the evil save point, I knew it'd be bad, so I ignored then proceed to the guy and got clobbered. Climbing the godforsaken tower again I take my chances with the save and I kill it to reveal the real save, I had the habit of saving INSIDE the save and I did the same for this save. SUPER EPIC BAD IDEA OF DEATH WITH A GIANT KILLER CHERRY ON TOP!
The evil save came back when I loaded inside me. Load = INSTANT DEATH, save file = SCREWED ON THE LAST SAVE POINT!!!
At which point I proceed to panic and shout at the screen multiple times  :'(.
Thank the guys that nice people restored my save though, although for the second the thought of DOING THE WHOLE F'ING GAME AGAIN WAS JUST *curls up in the corner and cries*.

Oh and then AFTER that I actually had to DEFEAT THE GUY, perhaps one of the hardest bosses ever created. But personally the guy is one of the greatest  bosses ever, just for it's sheer crazy ass difficulty.

*sigh*
That took a lot of keyboard breath!  :P
