Fangames! / Re: I wanna be the ultimate hero - Alpha Quickfix

well I was going to play this game (despite warnings not to) to find that you took it down because of copyright. Um sure you may be copying games but you know what, no one gives a care because its a freeware game so your probably not going to get sued unless a game you ripped off specifically said you can't do it.

I know the creator of IWBTH (the sonic guy) and i can prove that he didn't say that it is copyright.

Do you think I created IWBTH? Here's a quote of mine:

At first I thought about naming my project "I wanna be the hero" but after working some time I recognized that there was already a fangame with this name.
Hey personally I don't care if you name this I wanna be the hero, I was going to ask Tijit or someone else to delete that thread anyways, I scrapped that game long ago and moved onto better things.

I check his thread once a month
Uh... mind if I ask WHY?!!! That was honestly the worst game I ever made and I don't want anyone else to have to deal with something like that again. (Though given how many fangames have been spawned on these forums...)

Serious Discussion! / Re: Is Glitching a game Cheating?
« on: August 05, 2011, 02:16:57 pm »
I remember when I was younger, I would find tons of glitches in Ocarina of Time. When I tried to show my brother and sister they would go "Shut the fuck up. They would've been removed if they were glitches. They're on purpose."
I cried a lot when I was a child.
pfft lol sorry but that's probably the funniest view on glitches I've ever seen in my life.

I'd like to see what they would think about ISG or shadow early or even Superslide.

Okay um I have a feeling I should actually quote the interview that I was referring to.

Quote from: Miyamoto
- The infinite turtle block 1up trick was included on purpose: "We did code the game so that a trick like that would be possible. We tested it out extensively to figure out how possible pulling the trick off should be and came up with how it is now, but people turned out to be a lot better at pulling the trick off for ages on end than we thought." What about the famed Minus World? "That's a bug, yes, but it's not like it crashes the game, so it's really kind of a feature, too!"

So according to Miyamoto if it doesn't crash the game, it's a feature.

Also pennywise in response to what you said here.

If they consider it a cheat, I don't think anyone would have the right to dispute, and often times, what are reffered to as glitches in speedruns are often times not so, they are usually just little quirks in the game that the developers overlooked that don't break any of the game's fundamental physics.

Uh those are all glitches and they do break the game extensively, I mean you cannot say that RBA in Ocarina of Time doesn't massively break it.

honestly, I don't see how, in every sense but the official one, you cannot consider glitches like those in Super Mario 64 that allow you to complete the game with 16 stars(as opposed to the intended 70) cheating.
This is sort of a contradiction seeing as how Miyamoto sees any glitch that doesn't crash the game as a unintended "feature." (if you don't believe me the interview is right here.)

Also idk if I've said this already but what I believe to be cheating is using outside devices to cause the game to do things it normally doesn't (an example of what I'm referring to is a cheat device like Gameshark or Action Replay.) and seeing as glitches are programmed into the game (unintentionally mind you.) they aren't a form of cheating.

Oh and minor nit-pick.

the glitches utilized to complete the 16 star run can be mastered in the span of twenty minutes, thus easily breaking the game..
16 star runs can't be mastered in a span of 20 minutes (MIPS says hi.) AND BLJ's are real hard your first time around so...

If the glitch gives you more of a chance to beat the enemy, the level, or any other part of the game, it is cheating.

Simple enough.
So... the Superslide to keep the Master Sword at the Ganon fight is cheating? (here is a video of what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awzeIw-MymM)

Also what about the Power Crouch Stab to 1 cycle Gohma? (btw to do this just enter the room by jump-slashing with a deku stick, stun gohma and crouch stab her 3 times.) is that cheating?

Long story short a guy who made a terrible fangame of IWBTG (named I Wanna Be The Hero) and than left the forums for a while and decided to come back 'cause he was bored.

Oh Evan I should've expected a post like that from you. (well actually no I expected something like that from Liquid but still.)

What's this? I still exist, I just don't hang around as often as I used to 'cause I've been a lot busy with other stuff.

Game Design! / Re: Work in Progress Thread.
« on: May 28, 2011, 03:14:07 pm »
Well I've been working on and off on a new project I started about a month ago (meaning progress has been slow)

Long story short I've been re-making the original NES Metroid to try and see if I can make it more memorable and playable without making it anything like Zero Mission. (this means 8-bit sprites and sounds.)

You'll notice that I didn't add music in there 'cause I'm replacing the original music with midi's that I think sound better than the original. (especially the end credits theme.)

Also I'm not making the Varia suit that blasted purple/pink color but making it a orange color (thing is it's only 100% noticeable when you maximize the window but that isn't my real main concern atm.)

Now atm I don't have any enemies coded yet (I sorta want to rebuild Zebes some more before I do that.) but I will get around to it. (The Zoomers and Geemers though... they'll take a while.)

Here's a list of the items that I plan on putting/put into the game.

Morph Ball (done)
Bombs (done)
Long Beam (done)
Ice Beam
Missiles (done)
Screw Attack
High Jump Boots (done)
Varia suit (done)
Wave Beam

Now I released a few betas to some people who volunteered to beta test as I got along (mainly on the M2k2 forums), but I don't plan on releasing a playable beta on these forums yet until I get a bit more stuff done.

Oh and before I forget the game will have rtr scrolling instead of that complicated Metroid scrolling, this may disappoint some but I have plans on still making the scrolling feel seamless as it did in the NES era to nowadays (excluding the Prime games 'cause those're 3D and excluding Other M simply 'cause I hate that game with a passion.)

Well if anyone has something to say based on what I've posted so far (seeing as this thread is for criticism I'll probably get a reply soon.) feel free to do so as I'll accept all kinds of criticism.

Sorry, as i said I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE BUT PICKORY DO IT. Don't bite my head off because i got it wrong. Fucking hell.
What? I'm not biting your head off I'm just saying that it can be done with little effort. Like Anon said no-one's just cared to do it besides Storyyeller. (also I think DCX replaced the bow with a top-hat just so you know.)

Either way I'm not trying to bite your head off, I'm just saying that due to the forums going crap (at least in my eyes.) I have no real interest coming here anymore. (sure I come back every once in a while but that's only 'cause I want to see if the forums were relieved of the crap that's on here.)

What Anon said, weather you use MMF2 or GM that's really simple to do.

btw him thinking that this is pro coders only is one of the many reasons I don't play or make fangames anymore.

Glitches being cheating is really more for personal preferences, and glitches being allowed in a speed-run is not always entirely true.

For example the select glitch in Metroid 2 is banned in by a lot of speed-run sites including SDA due to how much it can screw up your game, same with the save corruption glitch in Pokemon Yellow. (although these are allowed for TAS but only 'cause they're meant to show how broken the game is.)

Personally I don't find any glitch in games cheating, as it's entirely the developers and beta testers fault for not finding the glitches and removing them. (and actually I remember a thread quoting that Miyamoto himself said that glitches are like unintended features in the game.)

yeah 3rd party hacks or altering the coding is definitely cheating.
I believe what you're referring to is something like a Action Replay or Gameshark. in this case I agree with you 100%.

Also what do you mean by TAS that uses cheat codes in an emulator Anon? all a TAS is is a input file that someone made while playing the game frame-by-frame. If a TAS where to have been made using a game-genie code it wouldn't show in the final product. (unless the one recording the AVI turned on the code which I seriously doubt they would anyway.)

I'll be getting it via Gamefly as my parent's won't buy games for me anymore. (although they did buy me Gears of War 2 so that's good, and yes I now have a 360.)

IWBTFG you mean? yeah of course it is. (and why'd I have a feeling you'd ask about that? :P)

hmm that's tough to say. I can't really pick one 'cause they're all entertaining, if I had to pick moments in one of his lp's I'd have to say when he found out what GB stood for in IWBTGB but favorite lp? can't say.

However I would recommend watching all of his IWBT lp's 'cause they're all hilarious. (well maybe not for DCX but for the rest of us...)
