Excellent® game. It took me about 20 minutes to get past the 100-yard dash screen: but it was fun. This is JUST what I wanted: a game like IWBTG, but with new content. I've beaten IWBTG on Medium and Hard, so it got boring. This is great fun though. You should add difficulties when you finish.

I'm up to the first boss, and here's my advice so far:

Don't change the football screens. If you decide to make it public at one point, I recommend putting them later in the game, however. 90% of people who stumble across IWBTU are already IWBTG veterans and the difficulty is Excellent®. Excellent®.

In the screen with the tricky spike jumps and four saves, I recommend taking out one or two of them. You should certainly take out Save 3. Far too easy with all the saves there. Taking out Save 2 is an option but that might make it more difficult than intended.

In the screen just before John Madden, put in some token obstacles, even if it's just a couple of hidden spikes and some jumps. Maybe some footballs shoot at you or something: but a whole screen devoid of obstacles just doesn't work:)

So yes, I may be the only person who actually suggests you UP the difficulty: but I hope you'll consider my suggestions. Awesome game: I'm going to take Madden on later today.

Help! / Stuffed up a save:( Need a replacement one.

Does anyone have a save of the first six bosses on Hard Mode? I was on the area after Metroid where the invisible blocks are, and I accidentally hit Z and ended up unable to stop myself dying, so I officially screwed up the save.

Even the first four or five bosses would be great: I just don't want to have to do all six again. If the save could be before the point where I screwed up, that would be preferable, since I don't want to cheat (though some might argue that this is cheating, ah well).

Thanks for pulling my butt out of the fire.

Some people count the screen after the screen with the SAVE on it as the first screen. I don't, but some do. There are only two screens where the actual fighting is done. Just for those who haven't reached the area and might be a bit confused.

General! / Re: La-Mulana and why Kayin sucks at making a hard game
« on: March 05, 2009, 06:53:14 am »
I don't know whether La-Mulana is harder than IWBTG. For the sake of argument, let's say it is. As Kayin said, IWBTG isn't meant to be literally as hard as it can be without being impossible. It's very challenging, and it's the best game I've ever played. I played it for 9 months on and off, and beating it felt awesome.

That said, I'm going to try out La-Mulana. I love hard games.

It feels AWESOME. I actually got this feeling no less than FOUR times throughout the playthrough (I've JUST won). I got the feeling after beating Clown Copter, which I was stuck on for a week, or if you count the first time I ever played the game and mistakenly went down the Lower Path, 8 months.

I got it when beating Metroid in half an hour, after using the trigger finger skills I developed in CC, and the dexterity I got from Dracula, especially since I'd been stuck on her for a month in another save.

I got it when beating Dragon Devil, and realising I'd just beaten FOUR bosses in one day (and 12 hours of gaming).

Lastly, of course, I got it when beating the Guy, falling from the jump, hitting a laser, and realising I'd bloody won anyway.

I love this game.

I am the guy! I had a similar experience as Fubu: On the sixth phase, second eye, I took my time, took the exact moment, went in, endured 15 seconds of absolute HELL, and took him out right before I got hit by his most basic attack, the red lasers.

I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" when I beat him, but then I cheered and turned the volume way up when I figured out I HAD DONE IT. I HAD BEATEN THE GUY. I AM THE FREAKING GUY! I love this game!

Help! / Cutscenes CAN be skipped!
« on: March 02, 2009, 12:23:27 am »
If you press the 'S' key, you can skip the cutscenes before The Guy and (presumably, I haven't checked) Dracula. I found it out and decided to post it as a public service. Should make The Guy a bit less onerous.

General! / Re: Progress Report! - How far have you gotten?

I was stuck on 3 bosses (Tyson, Birdo, Kraidgief) for a few weeks, and then spent 2 hours a day for 4 days on Wily, working on him (imagine my horror to find the screen after it) and after beating Wily about 20 times, managed to get to the save point. 2 hours later, I was at Dracula, and after a mere 3 hours, even breaking for dinner, I managed to take HIM down too!

So now I'm at 5 bosses, with a super trigger finger thanks to Wily, and new dexterity thanks to Dracula. Now to go after Mother Brain (which I'm stuck at on my other save). I actually think I can take her now, with my new skills. IWBTG really does improve your platforming skills a LOT.

EDIT: Yes. Mother Brain is down! On to the Castle of the Guy!

General! / Re: Songs that fit IWBTG

Alright: I didn't know this thread existed so I'll post my contributions here and then delete my thread.

Eye of the Tiger. It has a good rhythm and gives you fighting spirit.
This Is How A Heart Breaks: For those difficult bosses, you really empathize with this song. Perhaps too much.
Keep Holding On: Inspirational, and exactly what you need to do in IWBTG.

I'm trying to find more.
