Thanks. Yeah I realized the error not long ago, the next room is actually a big part of what I coded. I'll reupload it soon. What would you suggest that I use instead of the dragon and the Game Over screen then? I wanted to push the player to run back up the upper left hand corner right across from the door, and also have the element of surprise from iwbtg, so I decided to add something random.

Also I'd like to clarify that this is not a fangame, if it were I'd have posted in the Fangames! section, and the only reason I'm using Game Maker is that it was originally a project for a class and it requires Java only, and GML is similar enough to Java.

Edited: woop, got ninja'd, this was for Kudo

@Ellipsis
Thank you, haha the storyline was just something random I made up on the spot, and ah thanks for those comments. (You can talk to the dog and he barks ><) Umm, I guess I'll add an option to change controls later then. Sorry about the error message again, it was the last thing I implemented and the last thing I didn't bother to check..sigh

So Wolsky McKitty and I wanted to make this game with features from both Cave Story and I Wanna Be The Guy...so I did.

It originally was going to be a full game, but Wolsk hated on GM and decided we should do that in MMF2. Although I already had the engine working in GM, so I decided to continue it and just make a short, minigame of this.

I was gonna post it when I have it done, but I keep running into problems so I think I will need some more help and poop before finishing. Of course I won't constantly spam questions and little updates, but any help would be greatly appreciated :) Two major issues I have right now are slopes, which I tried implementing from the japanese engine but I didn't understand the code nor could I fit it to my engine, and saving global data, because I'm using GM's built-in save_game function (cuz I was lazy)

There is currently a "secret" - see if you can get the laser weapon

I can't find that import sprite sheet option you're talking about? And also I adjusted the tile settings so the grid fits perfectly on the tilesheet, but when I add them in a room there's still a gap in between them?

This isn't really a coding related question, but so I found this sprite sheet online, but as you can see everything is separated by one pixel, and if I just input this into my game, the one pixel gap will show up. I'm looking for a way to delete them and mash the pics together, can anyone help? I though there was an option like that in PS but apparently not?

hey, I dont know if you remember me, but I've been playing your game since umm version .042 I think? I found you on a different forum, and to this day, you still amaze me with every update. Your ideas and creativity are just beyond a lot of people, honestly you're my idol for being able to create a game like this, above all the other games, I love your game the most. In fact yours is the only iwbtg fangame that I still play now. I hope this isn't adding pressure on you, I just want you to know that you're admirable and I know it takes time for good ideas to come, considering the layout of the game, appearance of the game, new functions, music, coding and poop, so I don't know if people have said enough of this, but take your time. Love your work! :)

 :-\ still not working, oh well...I guess I'll just make it knockback the player and freeze him for a couple seconds then, thanks for your time though!

@Valkama
I just randomly added your code to my player's step event and the enemy I think, the code for knocking back is still player.x-=32 so it still gets stuck

@Ellipsis
In enemy collision with player event:
//umm I removed the code for setting the player invincible cuz it wasn't working, but I think thats just what I did

In player Step event:
Code: [Select]
if (invincible==true){
    flashes()
}

In Script flashes:
Code: [Select]
for (flashtime=50; flashtime>1;flashtime-=1){
    if (image_alpha>=.6){
        image_alpha-=.7
    }else
    if (image_alpha<=.4){
        image_alpha+=.7
    }
    if (flashtime<=2){
        player.invincible=false
        image_alpha=1
        break;
    }
}

@Ellipsis

oh I think I forgot to mention, I put all that code into a Script, and when the player collides with the enemy, the enemy sets the player to be invincible, and in the player's step event, it says that if it ever becomes invincible, it calls the Script, and by the end of the Script the player should return not invincible. So wouldn't the flashtime be set to 50 only when it becomes invincible, which is when it gets hit?

@Valkama

whoa okay, lemme try that, thanks
Edited: umm it didn't work..

...I think you just simply explained my code...sorry I'm not getting what you're saying for the flashtime, but I can try that for the pushback, but I think I will run into the same problem as I did with the previous for loop, where it never exits...I think that's what you're saying that the for loop itself runs 50 times, but I didn't get what you said after that...

Game Design! / Touching an enemy
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:52:44 pm »
So I'm having problems coding the enemy to bounce the player back when they collide, and/or send the player into invincible/flashing state for a few seconds.

I coded the bounce, but there are bugs of the player getting stuck into blocks cuz my code was simply player.x-=16 and I tried checking if place_free but the code became too long and I don't think I was doing it right

I tried coding the flash with a Script in Game Maker:
Code: [Select]
for (flashtime=50; flashtime>1;flashtime-=1){
    if (image_alpha>=.6){
        image_alpha-=.7
    }else
    if (image_alpha<=.4){
        image_alpha+=.7
    }
    if (flashtime<=2){
        player.invincible=false
        image_alpha=1
        break;
    }
}
didn't work, same with invincibility, I think the player just gets stuck being invincible

help please, thanks

Just because Boshy used something doesn't mean you can't use it too.
Well then it wouldn't be "original" as now I'm seeing so many stuff in I Am Bored 2 that are similar to other games and it annoys me, no offense to Indigo.

@jksnxia Once again you could find all my reasons by just simply browsing the forums.
I dont want to spend anymore worthless time on this forum unless I really need to.

@derf I vote to keep IWKTG and Boshy
