Crap! / Re: How to break Earthbound's economy
« on: August 27, 2012, 09:36:50 am »
Earthbound (Mother 2) is an RPG set in present day America that features elements you wouldn't find in many other RPGs like chowing down on Burgers for health, fighting against enemies of all shapes and sizes from fleas and mushrooms to hippies and the local police force, and features status ailments like the usual poisoned to having a cold and even being homesick to which can only be healed by calling your mom from a payphone.

I'm playing through the original NES version of it right now (Earthbound Zero/Mother) and having fun with it, but is very grind intensive compared to this game.

The image IGN has up is depicting how much cash he has at the ATM (which your father deposits cash each enemy you successfully defeat), and the Foppies drop tons of cash compared to how difficult they are to fight, I'm assuming.

The only way to play Earthbound nowadays is by emulation as the only official American release was on SNES which wasn't a success in Nintendo's eyes, so getting a copy of just the cartridge alone is $150+. With the box and INCLUDED Player's Guide, you're looking at least $300-$400 easily. Not to mention that if Nintendo of America wanted to rerelease it today, it'd have to have several names/music pieces/characters/in-game jokes changed as the lawsuit-happy nation that we've become today wouldn't let this fly.

Yeah, but there are still those who believe nintendo is going to release it on Virtual Console.

When you kill an enemy, EXP (Half, I think) is converted into money that Ness' dad gives him, but it goes straight to the ATM account. I got about 46K EXP, and Ness' dad is said to work in the burger factory.

Foppies are pretty weak, and they come in hordes. And they drop a ton of EXP (Around 400?). So I killed about over 100 foppies.

That they do. They and Fobbies are like the only enemy you can fight 6 of at a time. And they're pathetic. They'll even all stand a row so you can hit the entire group with PK Fire.

Announcements! / Re: For all you Youtube Partners
« on: August 02, 2012, 02:01:46 pm »
After a reply I gave to yt asking to give specifics on what they expect, they sent me this email:

------------

Hi,

We haven't been able to confirm that you have the necessary rights to commercially use all the video material and music from the information you've given us, so we ask that you provide written documentation substantiating your claim.

YouTube is not in a position to offer legal advice or to counsel you in any way. However, we have listed some elements below which we have seen in contracts to give you a sense of the types of documents we receive.

-explicit permission to use the rights holder’s content commercially (example: “I, rights holder’s name, give your name or channel’s name, the right to use my original content commercially.”)
-electronic signature with date (this can be as simple as the rights holder writing out full name at the bottom of the document)

Please be sure to pay attention to any limitations and/or conditions specified by the rights holder concerning your use of the content.

Once you have the appropriate contract, you can email it to us as an attachment. Please make sure to provide documentation in an acceptable format such as a pdf or image file.

----------

I don't even know if this is possible or if you're willing to/can do this. If not, i'd probably just purge this thread and tell everyone to try it, and if it gets rejected, there's nothing you can do about it. I have gotten a few videos monetized, but they were under 1min. Maybe yt ignores short videos during the review process.

Sure is funny, because i don't know about monetization, but just linking here knocked off pretty much every Content Match i had on my Let's Play. The odd thing is i got matched for Dance of Illusions once. But i had 4 videos with it.

Serious Discussion! / Re: Do you see "trolls" as good or bad?
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:03:21 am »
My opinion on trolling?

Depends on exactly what the trolling is.
If it's a stupid, out of place comment that's set up right.. Maybe good.
But when its just rude, like saying...

"The Biolizard from SA2 isn;t hard, you just suck!"
when most people (myself included) would beg to differ, it's just annoying.

And often, when given hard facts, those trolls will never argue back with facts, but will ALWAYS, ALWAYS go with a personal insult like
"Well, your mom is fat!"
OR
"Shut up, *insert derogatory term here*"
OR
*insert other personal insult here*

I hate those people, and unfortunately, they're much more abundant on the internet.

"restart frequently"

You mean like, three times while it updates your computer from 2009 - now? How inconvenient. Surely, there must be a 3hr window of opportunity in any given day where your ass isn't on that chair.

You should try windows update when you're not three years behind. only takes a few minutes.

Welcome to 2012, IWBTG:G should be working for you now.

No, you don't get it. Microsoft has Windows Update auto restart your computer for pretty much anything the tech geniuses at Microsoft feel like pushing onto your computer. I have been on my computer at 4:30 PM, walked away for 5 minutes, and when i come back, it's sitting at the login screen and Microsoft has pushed one of their patches onto my computer. Doesn't wait for things to close either, just force closes them. I disabled the dang thing too. I have it only restart for important updates. And only let it check for them at 3 in the morning.  It's not that difficult, just browse around your Windows Update settings and you should figure it out. Because it's so annoying being on the web, getting a drink of water, coming back to your computer and "Hi, we installed an update! Therefore, we restarted your computer. Your web session has been lost. Have fun trawling through the history for the next 2 hours trying to recreate it! Sincerely, the jerks at Microsoft." OK... it doesn't really say that. But that's what it always seemed like to me. Who the **** thought that users would appreciate Microsoft rebooting their computer at 4 in the afternoon just to push, say, IE9 onto their computer? It doesn't prompt, it doesn't even tell you that there is an update, it just goes and reboots!

You see why he turned off Automatic Windows Update? I sure do. I did it too. It just installs important updates now, and only at 3 in the morning.

.....so set windows update to not install automatically? Eureka. Now you can install them when you want to.

"but then it TELLS me when I have updates ALL THE TIME!"

......so set windows update to never check for updates? Eureka. Now you can check for yourself whenever your ass won't be on that chair.

"But then *I* have to check it and I'm soooo lazy and always forget"

And thus, the flowchart is complete.
You missed the point, i offered him a solution. There is one box you need to uncheck so that it won't restart in the middle of the day. It's labeled "receive recommended updates the same way i receive important updates"
Uncheck it.

I also just got ID matched on the section with the couch springs and the disappearing/reappearing blocks a la Heat Man from Megaman 2.

Disputed this one, waiting for response. As for Dance of Illusions, i acknowledged that one, because it, unlike these, is legitimate.

Guess what? Claim was once again released! Thank you for helping! If anyone else has someone do that, post here.

Good news! This claim was revoked! I no longer have this video marked as Content ID Match.

Get this error upon opening the program.

Do you have DirectX 9 or newer? If not, that could be your problem right there.

Ok, so on the map screen. I make it over the fish and the bridge then I get killed by the first level. Game Over screen pops up and I hit retry but it won't work. I press every button on my keyboard and nothing will let me retry

Odd. I also got killed by that thing by the first level, but my game didn't freeze. Might have been a blip in your computer or something.

I posted this in the bugs section, but it doesn't seem  like anyone checks there!

If you haven't TOUCHED Gaiden, don't look at this post. This is about IWBTG Gaiden.
In all seriousness though, spoiler alert below. I HIGHLY recommend not viewing this unless you are Kayin or someone else who has made it to the 2nd save point in 1-2.

I found a bug in IWBTGG. I was trying to get past the room in Stage 1-2 with the guy firing a rocket launcher. So i was fooling around, trying to blow up the missile. Which didn't work. Then i hit it with the bionic arm. Immediately, the dude firing it blew up. I was like "OK...?" and started doing that over and over, thinking that was part of the game. Got to the other side of the chasm. Find nothing there. I'm cautious, looking for traps. There are none. I save, then die trying to move on, and find that not only did the bug blow up the first guy, but all the other ones in the room, because there were 2 more. If you absolutely have to see images, I recorded the entire thing. Because I felt like Let's Playing. So yeah, i have 5 screenshots explaining what exactly happened.

Room normally:
The bug itself:
Something i should note about the bug: Hitting the missile sometimes causes it to move in the other direction. Other times it stays on it's original path. Both, however, result in, at the very least, blowing up the first guy. I don't know about the other guys because i didn't make it to the other side of the room on one where the missile kept going.
The other side of the room normally:
The other side after the bug:
While I'm on the subject, before i even started playing, I was already confused. Kayin says press z to jump, x to fire, and x to bionic arm on the download page. This is incorrect, as to bionic arm you need to push c. Just thought i'd throw that out there so no one else gets confused.

Suggestions and Bug Reports! / Re: IWBTG2?
« on: July 17, 2012, 12:46:52 pm »
Since this thing is completely pointless now, shouldn't someone close it? I mean, it's out, and Kayin has outdone himself. The traps in this game are much more clever. For instance, traps can trigger, then RE-trigger. They didn't do that in the first or any of the fangames. It was either one time trigger, or one time trigger that continuously moves and you have to wait for the right moment to slip through. And I can safely say he removed the dependence on spikes. Lotta lotta death in stage 1-1. Yet I think there's less than 20 spikes.
