Also, the game takes quite a while to start up the first time.  Try running the game, and then open up the task manager and see if the game is running in the process list.  If it is then just wait for a few minutes.

Err, can you say why it won't work on Linux?  If you can get Linux on the PSP, and you can get Wine on the PSP, then it should work.  It seems Linux can, of course, be ported to the PSP, but I don't know how well Wine will work.  If you can port the dependencies to the PSP as well, then Wine should work, and thus IWBTG.

On Very Hard, there is no save point there.

Was that one of Cloud's videos you were watching?  For the first half of his videos, he says he's playing Very Hard, then by the second half he's saying it's only on Hard.  I didn't play Very Hard on IWBTG back then, but all the saves he finds match Hard.

Moving while the analog stick is at neutral is a calibration problem.  Either use the controller's software or third-party software to recalibrate.  There may be ways to manually calibrate without using software, like moving the stick to all extremes, every corner it can go to, and letting it fall back to neutral; that depends on the controller and nowadays that doesn't always work (for some reason).  Usually that's how you software calibrate, anyway, but I've had sticks that won't self-calibrate.

The stick being over-sensitive sounds like the deadzone is too small.  I've never used joy2key, but a Google search of "joy2key deadzone" shows that there may be a way to configure the deadzone.  Make it larger and test until you're happy with it.

I remember that it took me forever to beat the Quickman stage, but was not a difficult game overall.  The first Megaman was wildly different in difficulty from all the rest, probably because the powerups weren't always helpful and the controls were stiff.

I still don't get the beef with JRPGs.  It seems more like a fad than anything.  I've only heard the JRPG bashing thing within the last year, and it's like it's coming from everywhere.  Knowing the Japanese, they'll probably start emulating and bashing their own games.  This'll pass, and we'll all jump on the next bandwagon: I don't know, maybe Rail-Shooter-Hating, or maybe that's come and gone too.

The only real differences are the divergence from DnD style (which is all good as far as I'm concerned) and the heavy linearization enforced by a strict adherence to plot.  These are two pretty unimportant points, and apply mostly to preference.

It seems more like people are just being petty about JRPGs without ever voicing the actual problem: which is that JRPGs are not "role-playing" games, and shouldn't be called such.  You don't play your own role, you play a predefined role, like in every other genre.  It's just two different ways to level-grind, and the two are only superficially comparable.  So, what the hell is the big deal?  Nothing.  That's what.  Crisis over.

Someone popped in at some point to upload to me, then left after I got about 2.5 MB of the file.  That at least means that it works, but a torrent isn't going to do much good unless more people are actively hosting the file, which probably won't happen until IWBTG becomes more popular or we get some crazies here who like anonymous internetters constantly accessing their computer.  I don't have a client on this computer to further test (because I'm lazy), so that's the end of that.

It should take less time to download the .torrent than to modify a post saying "I lost my torrent file."

I always do better when I focus on avoiding the spaghettios first, and you can avoid them pretty easily like so:

On the Mother Brain screen, they more or less will all come out at the same time.  Okay, not at the same time, but if you stand in one spot and jump at the last moment, all but a few will converge on that spot at the same time.  So, when you are relatively safe and ready to switch locations, wait for all spaghettios to be shot (I think the two on the far right are the last to be shot), then jump to a new platform, take some shots at Mother Brain or dodge laser fire, then stop and patiently wait for the spaghettios again.  Be careful about laser fire while stopped, since sometimes it shoots at weird angles.

The key to Mother Brain, for me, is getting that subtle rhythm down with the spaghettios.  If you wait like that and jump at the last minute, then most of them are converging on where you were and you'll have far fewer to dodge, which opens up time to shoot the boss.  But, you have to learn to calm down and be patient.  Or at least I did.  If you panic, it all screws up.

I thought so.  It's the one NES Megaman I never owned, but the one I enjoyed the most.

Can you not attach the torrent directly in the thread, instead of linking piratebay?  That's ... sort of the point of torrents...

Anyway, it's not finding any peers.  Is your torrent client still up and ready to send, or have others already grabbed it from you and seeded?  I'll let mine search a little longer, but the tracker hasn't found anyone yet.

Since we're blurring the lines a bit, maybe add Goonies II and Metal Gear (or was it MG2)?  These weren't so much difficult to beat as they were difficult to understand at first.  I wasted a few rental periods just trying to figure out what was going on in Goonies II.  Metal Gear was just unconventional.  Games shouldn't need manuals.

I don't see TMNT in the thread, either.  What a pain of a game.

It should technically run the same on Linux as OSX, but there's always the "magic" factor when it comes to computers.  I get periodic choppiness on my Linux box, but that's nothing to be surprised about.  I used to think it was overheating (a common thing on my laptop), but I'm starting to think that Ubuntu, Wine, and/or something else has some pretty poor processor management, causing some things to spike usage and deny others CPU time.  I don't have the same problem in XP (besides general slowness) on the same laptop, or Vista on a desktop.

You'd think a 2D sprite game would run many times better than, say, Half Life 2, but again there's the "magic" factor...

There's a "save" folder in the same place as the executable.  Kinda hard to miss, unless that's been changed.  Move it with the .exe.
