My avatar is the character 'Boogie Man' from the game Gregg the Egg by an indie game developer called JW.

Compiling tips -
Always run VBSP normal.
If you have water and/or lights, or a large map with areaportals and hints, run VVIS
If you have lights, run VRAD

I know people who run vrad with fullbright... it's pointless I tells you!!!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

K.. sorry about that.. I thought I'd ironed out all those bugs. I'll make sure it's fixed by the final release.

Wasn't quite sure where to put this topic.. so if it's in the wrong place I'm sure the powers that be will move it for me :P

Okay, so I'm creating a map, or set of maps for Portal which is inspired by iwbtg. I posted a video at some portal forums (and now everybody there hates me) so I figured I'd see if I'd get a better response from the people here.

^There's a vid showing the basic type of puzzle. Unfortunately, most of the puzzles will have to be that easy coz people that play portal aren't used to difficulty. There are two more progress vids for that map on my youtube page, don't watch them if you're interested in actually playing the map.

Here's a vid to a map I created a while ago, called portal HATE which everybody hates, but is more to the style of iwbtg I think:

So yeah, what do all you guys think? I got stuff like dynamic spikes working in the Hammer Editor, which is quite kewl.. I'm thinking of adding cherries but I may not, coz I wanna keep at least some originality :P

bah.. you know what I did? When I was testing it I switched the order of the two rooms, so the second room is the only one you can play (if you go the left it comes up with some fatal error or something)
The link is updated, so it should work fine now ;)

Thanks. It wasn't intended to be that hard.. that's just the way it turned out. With the rain that splits up, it's often best to jump above it before it spreads out too much.. that's my hint.

I would try the game out, but 6.1 is incompatible with vista.
Kay then.. I'll compile with GM7 and re-upload. Again.

edit: Yup, is compatible with vista now ;)

Hi.. new here.

A game:

It's called h. And you are the letter h.

^Here's the gameplay tester... the first frame is teaching the player that green stuff kills you (you'll need your double jumping skills handy). The second frame is a dodge-em-up style thing. If shit stops falling form the sky, it means you've beaten the gameplay I've added so far.

I'm going to add a storyline.. something like h being the letter that was supposed to 'bring you' some television program, (it's the 26th ep, and h is the only one not chosen yet) but m is chosen instead. h gets really angry and decides to dodge shit falling from the sky.

Created with game maker 6.1 (hence the crap icon I couldn't be bothered to change).. took me ~2 hours while I was stuffing around tonight. Let me know what ya think ;)

Game Design! / Re: What programs do you use?

LOL just don't use vista...
This guy's clever.

I use GM 6.1.. Coz it has a nice interface and setting up 3d games is really easy.
I'm currently working on a little mini-project called 'h' which I'll post up on these forums.. coz it was semi-inspired by iwbtg.

I only use drag and drop

I use this program for 2 years and I still have a lot of difficulties using this program for what I want to do with.
Once you sit down and learn the program's limitations and the programming language, GML, it's pretty easy.. but I learnt back in like primary school when I had way too much time on my hands. You're right about learning C instead though.. some of the coding habits you get into when learning GML are annoying to get out of later.
