Crap! / Such sad news

RIP James Garfield

You will be missed by all, Mr. President.

Crap! / Well, that was... anti-climactic.

I was half-expecting it to magically add years to the line-up, but I should've figured that if it didn't do the time logged in months that it would've remained the same.

Crap! / Yo, East Coasters

Looks like this fall, I'll be heading to New York in October for NYCC.  We have about 6 months to plan the next IWBTF meet up if anyone is interested in making this happen. Any takers?

Crap! / Anyone here use a VPN?
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:16:18 am »
With the Six Strikes law now coming into effect here in the US and getting internet from one of the major companies that helped create it, I want to be a bit more cautious when it comes to downloads, so I'm thinking about paying a yearly VPN subscription to help that cause.

Does anyone else here use one? If so, which would you recommend and why?

Or does it seem like the clock on the forum runs roughly 4 minutes fast?

Crap! / Virtue's Last Reward
« on: October 23, 2012, 11:48:37 pm »
Fans of both visual novels and 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors absolutely NEED to get the successor that just came out today, Virtue's Last Reward for either the 3DS or PS Vita.

Here's a short OVA explaining the story, with the same voice cast as in the game (save for Sigma, your character is mute in-game.)

I've only managed to play two or so hours into it, but it's already got me hooked. I'm enjoying the puzzles that have already been thrown at me, each of them (I think) has two puzzles in one: one to get the item needed to escape, and the other to get bonus documents (Gold on Hard and Silver on Easy, the difference being the other characters give you more hints on Easy) that go in further detail to the game's backstory.

Just as the previous game, the translation is top-notch and the story draws you in as you start to become attached to the characters. Also like the previous game, there's a whole multitude of endings (a total of 24 this time around) that you can get based on the choices that you make during the game, adding to the replayability until you get the 'true ending.'

If you can find it at your local game shop or have the cash to pick it up on PSN, do so now! You won't regret it.

Because I have no idea why I'm up this late/early, I was basically lurking the forums and decided to look at each thread I had made in Crap! over the years. Some were awesome, while others cringeworthy.

One topic I made in particular, however, had Rule 18 in the title itself:
To the people with the parrots as avatars... (Rule 18 Applies)

Even more curious as to what it could have been or could be, I decided to limit a Google search through the forums and found a shit-ton of references to Rule 18.

EDIT: All of Ybbald's quotes here were after the fact, not before it got changed, so the only two we have to work with are my thread and tijit's/Ellipsis' quote.

This is going to be seriously old for some of you, but...

In total, it's a good 50k words; you don't need to read any of it. Just know that the letter "e" isn't used.

I might find myself in an impressed state if this had submitted under the prestige of Rule 18 After the fact.

I find myself searching the sand pit areas at this time. I shall update this reply later if a further reply shall fail at appearing with my current state's news.

The thread title has been updated as the rules have changed and rule 18 shall reign supreme.
After the fact.

I think Cantavanda is a pretty stupid guy. Eh deserves a perma ban and never afraids at failing at submitting under the rules, particularly rule 18. After the fact.

damnit I disremembered...

Rule 18 only applies to Crap, I've decided.

Beat flying dragon thing with 10 energy left ^_^

Ok where do I go now? (double post to make sure someone sees this. Ill edit it in after someone replies)
After the fact.

Cool video, really like the music too.
Also I saw that rule #18 there. ^^

Yeah, the music is deadmau5 and I would assume this is an exception to rule 18, as I recorded the video myself, I'm not just linking random shit

I find recent failure to submit to Rule 18, disturbing, JCM. After the fact.

So now it's a matter of figuring out from the posts before April 2011 when tragedy struck the Established Rules thread of what Rule 18 could possibly be. How would both of these link together?

Those on IWBTSkype know that I was working for a company that designed search engines designated for two very specific things (that I will not mention here in case this would come up in a search result under Google for the company) and that at the end of June, they let me go on a three-week furlough to "retrain the sales people" amongst other things, and that ended up lasting until just last week. Three weeks, three months, same difference, right? So on Friday, I got an e-mail from my manager saying that we in the front office could come back and help them with their latest project, to which I agreed upon the condition that they work around my new schedule at Geek Squad and showed up today.

The guy that the head honcho has designing his search engines was the lead on this project, which already made me feel a bit uneasy as he tended to either do very little to nothing at all or do nothing and blame other people to get out of the spotlight himself. Case in point, he explained to me and one of the other guys that came back that what we were doing was trying to get their name cleaned up so sites like Ripoff Report and Google auto defaulting the name of the company with the word Scam next to it. How were we going to do this, you asked? He made another 30 sites with the default company name in the URL, and it was our job to post those links everywhere, AKA going onto various forums and blogs and spamming links wherever possible.

I had no trouble making a false name, new e-mail address, and a basic background for the guy I was supposed to be signing up as, but it wasn't until I was about half-way through the list of forums trying to sign-up (to which a good 2/3 of them came up denied as they blocked the IP out due to spamming) that my ethics kicked in and made me realize what a horrible thing I was doing. Spamming sites that have been defunct for ages (years) is one thing, and even making your own forums to spam links in as well, but to knowingly go against what you've learned over the years on a forum and be a human spambot? I couldn't do it.

All I did was finish signing up under the list of websites and only make a few posts under the newbie sections, but getting responses back (as I hadn't posted any links yet) from everyday people like you or I welcoming me into their community, it overall made me feel like a really shitty person and I had to tell my manager that I couldn't go through with this. She understood it completely and offered to e-mail me once sales had started back up again, so that I could do what I did before at the job, which I was fine with.

Sure, this would've been my second job and made me extra cash on top of working elsewhere, so I easily made the decision to leave after a day of doing this... but I'm not sure if I would've dropped it Day 1 had this been (still) my only source of income, or if I would've started looking elsewhere for employment. So the question I post to all of you (who read this) is: Given a similar opportunity to get paid under the table to spam websites everywhere, would you do it?

Crap! / Don't you just hate it when...

You're trying to catch some sleep after a long day, then all of a sudden some guy crashes through your backyard gate and gets taken down by two police officers and you're left wondering what the hell just happened?

Crap! / Was it just me...

Or did Draco have some sort of unicorn avatar for a day or so with a sig saying that "His sister is his most favorite person in the world?"

Let's get this party started!

EDIT: Just finished up the second chapter (of Corpse Party) and wrapped up for the evening. Thanks to those that showed up!
