Announcements! / Forum Closed
« on: January 01, 2019, 07:28:03 am »
To kick off the New Year, the forums are closing. For now registration has been disabled and most members will find themselves unable to post (though some in special groups can still post, though I recommend not).

I care a lot about archivism so while I want to not be maintaining a forum no one uses just to patch security holes, I will be leaving the software up while I prepare a static backup.  If you have any precious moments in your PMs or non-public boards, -back them up now-. You'll likely have a number of months to do this but rather safe than sorry.

edit: I got a static page up over here. http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/static/forums/ Feel free to check it out and make sure everything works fine. If something isn't working right, message me on twitter or shoot me an email. Plan right now is to take the forums down completely at the end of the month.

My current archival techniques that I've decided to try should maintain the forums appearance.

So yeah, on new years I'll be setting the board to read only mode. I'll be moving to an archival copy somewhere down the line. I'll leave the boards 'up and locked' for awhile longer after that for people to possibly recover things like private messages and the likes.

Not quite doing that. I'll be Internet Archive style ripping the boards into HTML. This removes security issues with ru nning old forum software. I'll then keep the MySQL database somewhere just in case.

Community choice has pretty much been 'let it die' with a few hold outs and sorry guys I'm not leaving a security hole up for a few holdouts.

Let one of my last acts on this board outside of an official capacity be me saying "this game owns"

Also had a fun time hanging out with Konjak in Japan when I went. What a grumpy fucking swede I love him

I think I'm gonna give up on forums in general. All shilling can happen on twitter. But yeah, we got a empty husk here with some boards not having posts in them for years. Gotta set you all free.

Considering the only response was someone who got banned for ban evading my current plan unless you guys tell me to stop is to archive the board at the end of the year.

I'm considering shutting down the forums here. The forums have been nothing but a glorified hangout for a few of you for awhile. Now as time goes on they get more and more neglected and potentially more and more of a security vulnerability. Most activity seems to be replaced by the IWBTG discord.

So how about it? Who actually cares? I don't plan on making a decision any time soon but and I'd look into ways to archive the forum safely if I did shut it down. Something to think about.

I don't think it changed difficulty? But I can set commands for the game to have global events (which... no real reason to do now but w/e, the web connection stuff is still in).

So Gaiden was made to troll the fighting game player and LPer Floe during the EVO Championship, which is a fighting game tournament. If you look it up you can see the live event we did, complete with commentators. It was a lot of fun.

Well I mean, mechanically it totally is a ripoff. At least when playing as Naomi. And artistically its very "Anime CV" (so Rondo) but in terms of gameplay style, I'd say its pretty different. It has some Ninja Gaiden spice thrown in (not so much with difficulty or unfairness but NG and BEP have enemies that move more aggressively) and a level design style that's a bit more platformy. A cool comment I've gotten unprompted from several people who've played it is it feels like one continuous world? Like there is a sense of place and structure thats noteworthy... which I love hearing, because I feel like if I have any strength as a game designer its my level design (because lets be real, mechanically I've never done anything particularly interesting. I've only stolen things that would be interesting)

The game was far too deep in construct by the time I decided construct sucked so its there. tentative release date, very early 2017 between January and march I think.

So I've migrated everything to using SSL. Mostly this benefits the forums, but it really shouldn't matter. If anyone has any problems because of this change, let me know. Right now SSL is forced, but if people have issues I might revert it.
