Actually. I feel I should type a lot more about my feelings towards this game.
I'm a Computer Science student in Dublin Institute Of Technology, Ireland, and I used to want to be involved in the games industry. I still sort of do.
But I have absolutely no care about modern games. Everyone gets excited about GTA4 etc, and "Console Shooter #3940", but I just don't give a shit. I'm still of the opinion that "The best game ever" is Super Metroid and that's never going to be beaten no matter how many shaders they lay on their latest piece of crap FPS. I was talking to some guys doing the Trinity College Masters in Game Design course, and they ALL spent 30 minutes telling me how graphics are the best thing about modern games and how they've never played Half Life 1, Super Metroid, Megaman 2, etc.
Right then I thought "If these are the people making games now, I don't want to be involved".

But IWBTG is a game I enjoyed. It's ruthlessly hard like good old games, not piss easy to try and accommodate everyone, it's got kickass music (Admittedly all stolen but hey who cares it fits), it's got FANTASTIC level design and it's genuinely enjoyable. It's not "Hard due to bad design" either, I mean there are unfair moments, but nothing irritating like dumb leaps of faith etc.

It's a fucking great game, and despite the fact it's made in MMF (lolwut), it's going down as one of my best games of 2007. Fuck modern games.

Thanks for the 9 hours and 40 minutes of fun.

Thank god. I finally found someone that agrees with me on the majority of modern games...

It also depends what you mean by the "Music Genre" of games. It seems like you're reffering to just "Rythm Games", but, the music genre in gaming goes much further. Actually, I think it's an outlet that hasn't been explored a lot, and has quite a large potential for original, revolutionary, and pretty epic games.

What I'm talking about is games that take advantage of spectrum analyzers. Games that take the music, and store data about the amplitude, frequency, beat offset, etc. of the sound waves.

There's been a couple games like this, but it's hasn't really been explored that well. One that comes to mind is a game like this in the Xbox 360 Live Arcade. I don't have an XBox 360, don't know the name of the game, and only saw the game briefly at my friend's house, but for all of you that have an Xbox 360, you might know the game I'm talking about.

Random Generation is a great concept that can arize out of music analysys. Importing different styles of music can determine the difficulty of the level you face. Calmer songs provide an easy gameplay, while fast songs provide action packed gameplay to fit right with what's being played. High amplitude, and high bass can cause tougher enemies to spawn. Higher frequencies, or shorter intervals between beats will cause the spawn rate to get dramatically faster.

That's just one idea, and there's many more that could come out of that concept.

If you walk off the moving platform, and then jump, you'll only get one jump. It's easy to accidentally do when you try to jump forward off the moving platform (being that it's so small). I reccomend hitting jump and then left as a precaution, instead of both of them at the same time.

Good timing. The trick is to jump over the spikes that rise from the ground right before they start to come up, and land on the other side right as the spikes in the ceiling are going back in.

Hold in the direction of the wall, then press jump and away from the wall at the same time.

It takes practice, and you'll really suck at it at first, but trust me, you'll eventually get used to it ;)

One thing I want to point out: Sadly, there might not be a demo for a little while. I like to put a good amount of stuff in the first demo of any of my games, for the whole 'first impression' factor. From then on, new demos will have less new stuff in them, and things will move much faster.

Right when the window breaks, a bunch of the big bullets fall down from the ceiling. They're hard to see because their outline is the same color as the background, and the yellow blends in; I didn't notice them the first time either. Just watch very carefully when the window breaks... make sure to dodge them.
