Help! / Re: Configuring you keyboard to not beep
« on: February 20, 2008, 06:32:50 pm »
Yes, there should be settings if you get into the Sticky Keys menu.

The Windows Control Panel has undergone some unnecessary overhauls (read obfuscations) over the revisions, but Sticky keys seems to always be under the "For-The-Handicapped" section, which is called Accessibility or Ease of Access in the Control Panel.  Go there hunt for any keyboard options and Sticky Keys (and an option to disable Sticky Keys) will probably be the first thing available.

Also, in the same place you find the Sticky Keys settings, there should be a Filter Keys setting as well.  Make sure that is turned off, since it may be causing the beeping.

Be careful, because Sticky Keys has some misleading settings that makes it seem like you are turning it off, but really it's just disabling it temporarily and you'll get the prompt the next time you hold or press Shift five times.  I assume Filter Keys might have a similar setup, so just turn everything OFF.

Oh, come on:

Megaman (the first)
Megaman (the one with Quickman)
Ghosts 'n Goblins
Zelda (the first and second, but mostly the second)
Super Mario Bros. (the first, although it's not remotely hard anymore to the Nintendo generation)

I think you should trade Super Metroid for NES Metroid.  I don't think Super Metroid even qualifies as Hard, unless it's a Super Metroid, nothing-but-wall-jumps hack.

I am now The Guy on Very Hard.  Plus, I ditched my old save folder and regrabbed all the secret items on Very Hard, too.  What a f'ing pain.

I've never missed that jump. It's so easy.

Mother Brain on very hard is annoying, tho'.

I envy you.

And, Mother Brain on Very Hard isn't any different from Hard.  It isn't any different from Medium either.  There's no save afterwards, yes, but the escape is just some easy jumping.

Mecha Birdo on Very Hard.  Wait, that's not true.  The orb room after Mecha Birdo on Very Hard.  The only save is the screen after the spike corridor, so you have to trudge through the latter half of G&G and beat Birdo again.  And after all that?  One fussy, pixel-perfect jump under a warhead before the next save.  I can never make that jump.

It doesn't have to be right, unless that's been changed lately.  I've tried moving left and still move out of the way (to the right, but still, it works).  Try pressing other keys.

I jump to the first wall, launch to the second one, then launch back in the direction of the first one.  At that point, I can stop myself in midair and fall down to grab the top of the first wall.  No turning around is necessary.  From there, you can wall jump all the way up to the third no problem, and so on...

Yeah, I can't get through the hole on the second screen either, after getting the key.  Also, I can't fall down off the second screen.  When I stand on the very edge of a block, before falling off, I'll start to jitter around.

And what's up with the lens effect on the second screen?  That's awesome!

Did he refix that?  Anyway, if you're talking about the Game Over room, and getting back to the beginning of the upper path, you can return to the start by using the warps outside the Fortress of The Guy, unless those have been borked, too.

There are some developer hotkeys that Kayin has yet to fix.

I can't imagine it being used in game, it would be unfair to people new to IWBTG2 to make them play the first one, plus since when does this game ever get easy? Perhaps if you get all the items, it makes the second game HARDER, ie: the first boss steals your gun and uses it on you (for veterans only!) :D

If IWBTG was a man, and he looked up the word "fair" in the dictionary, he would find nothing between "faint" and "fairy," both of which he would use often when describing his prey.

something that looks like it fell off Megaman's hand...

I say its a giant-cherry launcher.  It's about time The Kid got his chance to rain deliciously fruity terror on ... er ... spikes?  Yeah, the gun upgrade seems odd, since there's not much to shoot besides bosses, turrets, and saves.

Announcements! / Re: IWBTG: Revsion B2 (test)
« on: February 04, 2008, 12:28:56 am »
I can't get to the Tetris room in Rev. B2(SM) downloaded from the front page.  Right as the screen is switching, there's a slightly longer than average freeze and I'm dropped at my last save point in the Divine Transportation room.  This happens every time, using old saves and no saves.

Also, many of the Divine Transportation portrait crash my game.  I haven't tested (out of laziness) Bowser and Mother Brain, and The Guy warp works okay, but the other four always crash.

I don't know how much of this is specific to my machine, though, since I've only tested it on the one.  I have bad luck with the teknowlogeez, anyway.

Edit: I thought I wouldn't be such a lazy jerk and test the last two protraits.  Bowser and Mother Brain crash too.  I don't want to sound crass and say that I hope it's not just my computer, but I really love this game and ... yeah, I'm kind of an ass.  Sorry.  Keep up the good work, Kayin.

Well, Kayin's been adding on to the game by simply providing up-to-date executables, more or less.  I think it's possible that the "new mode" will simply be another extension, much like the 6 hidden items were just another addition to IWBTG proper.  Just download a new IWBTG*.exe, put it in the directory with your old save folder (provided it's compatible; otherwise, start over), and continue from there.

You don't get Birdo's portrait until you grab the orb, which will always be there, even after you've already gotten it.  Just make your way back to that room (Divine Transportation Room goes to that orb room, right?) and get it, unless your save is messed up such that you can't play it anymore.
