Can someone please give me a crash course on Big O notation?

Big Oh notation is the upper limit of the time taken/space taken to run a specific algorithm. That means that when you run the algorithm, you're dealing with a huge dataset or all the cases that take longer to go through are the route that ends up being taken. So if I have 3 nested loops, each one taking n steps to complete, the worst case is n steps, giving us O(n³). Array accesses are O(1), because you have some constant time access to the data at that location.
