Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
« on: October 19, 2008, 03:35:31 am »

I got to play it Friday night for the first time, beat it Saturday. It's a good game, though some of the design flaws keep it from being perfect. Nevertheless, I don't know why people hate this game. I think they did a good job combining action/adventure elements with RPG elements, and the exploration was fun. The day to night mechanic was innovative, and I like it adds urgency to what you need to do, like heal yourself in a church or buy laurels before night hits.

Overall, it's a great game, and definitely deserves more recognition than what it gets. What does everyone else think?

I have to agree with you. This game is quite a classic and has inspired many other games which is good. My only complaint must be the day/night system because it's quite annoying how it stops in the middle of fighting something..

No, it has some pretty big legitimate flaws, but if you know where to go, it's decently fun.

I've only played the game once and never beat it, but last I checked, the game gave you clues as to how to get to places; even the whole tornado bit where you had to kneel for 15 seconds. :P

Yeah, books scattered throughout the game give you clues as to what to do. The townspeople don't really help, save for a couple.

What ending did everyone get when they first beat it? I got the bad ending, black and white, took too long. Was kind of shocked, but actually felt better about that one, instead of getting the middle one (worst one).
