Mr. Hulk T problems

I'm having some difficulties with Mr. Green T. I have figured out how to kill him i belive, but as i reach the top and fire away at him, there seems to be nothing to speed up the time until he goes into the next phase. On some tries, i shoot him for very short time, and he starts firing them cute anime men at me. On others, it takes ages before he does that. I even switched my shoot button to something different so im able to hit him with 3 shots every jump instead of two, and it suddenly feels like it takes even longer.

Is there anything special i have to do to get him to the next phase?

But thats the point. Sometimes i shoot him a little, and he goes into shooting men at me. Then i shoot for a really long time, and he's still not moving on. It cant be right =/

There is a dishonest way to do this but you don't want to do that know would you.
