So my last Windows 8 patch was apparently ineffective. This patch should take care of most Windows 8 shortcomings. I'm at least hopeful of that.

This also gave me the opportunity to fix a lot of glitches and oversights pointed out by MetaKnightKirby2. And apparently the old bug of glitchmethod saying "5" in a much older version still existed in brisulph form. If brisulph tried to talk to any other characters, he would just say numbers while the voice clip played. That has also been fixed.

I'll leave the old download link up for a while just for shits and giggles. But if you use Windows 8, definitely download from this link:

In light of the plight caused by Windows 8, I have released a new and improved version of I Wanna Be Like Brisulph. The crashes from sound overload in Windows 8 also allowed me to fix quite a few other problems in the game, such as those arising in Boss Rush (particularly for the Four Second Frenzy boss on Hard as Shit and TTF difficulties) and the portal not coming back after defeating Toast a la Ghost.

Boss Rush

INTRODUCTION OF GUN POWER AND SPECIAL POWER! You can no longer rely on your fast trigger finger to shoot bullets fast. Every time you shoot, you use up gun power, and you can only shoot when gun power is above a certain threshold. Some weapons fire automatically if you hold down the shoot button, but shots become less frequent as gun power decreases. Stop shooting in order to regenerate gun power.

Special power is attributed to specific characters. Much like gun power, using a special ability uses up special power. Taking a break from the special ability will regenerate special power, but if the special power level goes to 0, the consequences could be dire.

Once you have unlocked other characters, press CTRL while you are touching a save point, and the character select menu will pop up. Press left/right until you have selected the desired character, and then press the jump button to confirm and return to the game.

If you have defeated the boss of a particular area and do not wish to redo the entire area, press Enter and you will warp back to the main hub.

Boring, Uninteresting, Unfunny and poorly placed traps, Level design was meh, Also the Metal Gear place lags like a bitch, and finally the zelda boss thing was terrible.

Well, allow me to disagree. I was trying to get away from the stock "intricate jumps and poor references" trend of fangames. That's why you don't see that many spikes. Granted, the boss could be more challenging, but I'll wait and see what else I can do for it. The Metal Gear area doesn't lag at all for me, so my guess is that's your computer's fault.

Did you at least rescue Zoop? Or test out the alternate weapons?

Go back and play IWBTG. Compare it to your game. You will know what I mean. Don't forget you are making a game like another game so I will compare your game to the game you are trying to make it like.

Fangame is used rather loosly on this forum. Fangames are supposed to be games with tons of references to the game it is a fangame of. (Hurray for getting off on a tangent)

Its not that the boss isn't hard enough. It just sucks. Nothing more to say about it. It just Flat out sucks. Heck the boss was better in Zelda 2.

I will change the boss's attack patterns in later alphas.

The machine gun didn't work at first because you have to collect it by beating the boss. Then press 2 on the numpad to select the gun and hold down Z (by default) to use it. Also try out the freeze ray (numpad 3) and grenade lobber (numpad 4) which are immediately available for testing purposes.

And when I say "poor references," it's probably better said as "crappy backgrounds, unfitting music, and lack of sprites and objects NOT taken from the engine itself." Believe it or not, I actually had to rework a lot of the code from my engine in order to get the multiple characters/guns to work properly.

And just for the record, I'm not trying to make a game like IWBTG. The only reason I'm calling this a fangame at all is because its roots are in IWBTG, but I'm just putting my own spin on pretty much everything, just like I did with 9 Divine.

Ignoring Anon old generic "I hate everything" mentality I give out some useful tips and tweaks you can do

- Since you not gonna put emphasis on bashing z for rapid fire can't you switch it to hold the z button...because it's annoying that rapidly pressing z whilse the bar recharge...that two or three presses does nothing
- Gravity seem lighter...is this dilibrate or a glitch
- Rather then using the keypad to change weapon why won't have like "next weapon" and "previous weapon" just above the shoot button because I prefer to have like one hand dedicated to moving and dodging whilst the other is shooting and combat
- How about planting ammo into the game...Like you have to be VERY careful when to use it instead of spamming the grenade button as a shield against the mother fucking spiders
- Have a picture instead of words to indicate what weapon you have equipted

Well could add more but still looking around the game...WTF SLOPES!!!!!! :O
So far got potential...but it's missing something..can't put my fingars on it

Your a kid, with a gun and a cape that can double jump, it has cherries, it has spikes. And you think you can tell me its not an iwbtg like game. But fine I'll play it your way.

Still bad level design, Unfunny traps, and your game is boring, unfun and uninteresting. Nothing in the game stood out, I didn't enjoy the game at all. Your traps didn't make me chuckle. Keep your traps related to your area. A troll face comming out of the background is not only stupid but it makes no sense at all.

I think you are trying to fix the things fangames do wrong but you forgot the most important thing, Gameplay.

Didn't see that coming. I will definitely work out that bug.

I will also work to reduce the number of trigger traps and leave the difficulty more to the A.I. enemies.

Regarding the hate: this game COULD be a non-IWBTG game, but it's not. I believe this is because Brisulph played IWBTG back in the day (well so did Zoop; it was an IWBTG battle-off). I'm giving this a try now.

[I think]This game is a tribute to the Talkthrough Krew, so it's probably going to be more faithful to that group and what it represents more than anything. It just has to be an IWBTG game because .... well, i don't know. That wasn't my idea.

Judging by the ustream preview though, this game did seem to be lacking something.

Its pretty solid for an Alpha , but i gotta say it starts off a little hard and the gun power does the initial gun no favor, it honestly removes the fun of killing things with it, too slow. Make it shoot 4 pellets before cooling down and i really don't see why it can't kill red spiders instead of just the blue ones.   THe beggining of the Zelda level needs a save point, its really annoying to be going all the way back to the hub evrytime i die, it just  a pointless transition and makes it annoying.

On the other hand I love the Grenade lober, its really fun to use and satisfiying to get kills with. And you included interesting features into it that I'd like to learn, like being able to select difficulty in the stage select screen, the spiders' web as they go up and down as well as  swinging enemies and laser trip traps. And that
trollface hiding  in the trees
made me laugh hard.

The  firebird boss felt really lackluster though, not spontaneus or surprising enough and its lightning attacks can be easily avoided.

Overall it's starting well but could be better.

Actually, I thought it started off pretty easy. The forest area is pure trial and error of learning where all the traps are. Every enemy can be killed by grenade spam or avoided. Since it's trial and error, it is annoying having to backtrack all the time though. None of the traps in the forest area were really funny or original to me, but hopefully this will be improved later.

Anyway, the first gun is useless. There's no reason to use anything besides grenades or machine gun. Also, switching weapons is annoying since you have to move your hand all the way over to the numpad each time.

I will make the regular gun easier to use in later alphas, and the grenade lobber will do less damage to certain enemies (at least in certain areas.) Keep in mind that the freeze ray and grenade lobber were only included in this alpha for testing purposes. In order to obtain those weapons in the full game, you will have to defeat other bosses.

Speaking of bosses, though, what would you recommend I do to improve the Thunderbird boss? Should I add another attack? Make him faster? Make him move in a different pattern? Please be specific.

Overall, thanks for the feedback. This is the whole reason why I release alphas.
