Two decades of gaming and dropping almost every game in my path.  RPGs, SHMUPs, Action, Adventure, Strategy, they all usually fall before me.  Previously, there was only one game I have not been capable of beating, that being Populous, the hardest game ever made.  Well, it used to be at least, because now there is a new game with that title, this one.  I Wanna Be The Guy is the hardest game ever designed, more difficult than even the most insane Bullet Hell SHMUPs, and I simply can't beat it.

I get to The Guy's fifth form (second "big" phase), and I get creamed every single time, I just can't dodge all the crap he throws at you.  So congratulations, you have made the second game I simply can't beat, and I name I Wanna Be The Guy the new World Heavyweight Champion of Impossible Games.

Disclaimer: This does not count "special challenges" like "beat a game with no continues" or "NSG FFX" and other such stuff, though this game would still win because Impossible Mode really is impossible.

I really, REALLY wish that there was a save point between forms of The Guy.  The first form has become so mundane and easy for me, I can pass it almost every time, making it more of a time waster than anything.  Hell, even up to the rotating lasers of doom on the second form is easy for me.  Then, when those heat-seeking white sparklies come out to play, I get raped.  Yes, I know I can shoot them, and I've only been hit by the actual sparklies once.  It's just that they keep me from paying attention to the rest of the attacks.  Of course I resort a lot to running below The Guy's mouth.  However, after that when the entire ground is engulfed in flames, save the two tiny platforms, I'm just screwed.

Yep, that is exactly the part that gets me most.  Form 1 drops in like 7 seconds because I point-blank uzi him, form 2 is tough but goes in about 40 seconds, and form 3 is just tedious once you know the pattern and yet still takes about a minute to complete.

I do have some trouble dodging the stuff from the ceiling going into form 4 (first "big" phase), but after that, it is easy to get to and even past the laser rotation.  Form 5 (second "big" phase) is a killer, I seem unable to dodge/shoot the white shots while also dodging the fireballs, and even if I do, the teeth get me.  I have not even managed to make it to form 6 (third "big" phase).

So after dying I think 500 times over the course of six hours (perspective: I get to the last stage in 90 minutes with only a few dozen deaths), I just gave up.  I just do not have the patience to spend more time on one boss than the entirety of the rest of the game combined.

I have a tip for the fifth form:  Stand on the pedestals, and keep jumping/shooting.  The white sparklies will go horizontally into your shots.  Now what you want to do is learn the timing for the first eye beams.  Jump up right before they fire so that when they fire they go horizontal.  For the spikes, you'll need to learn the timing, but double jump into the air right before they shoot and drop down to the FLOOR, not the pedestal.

I actually beat the sixth form and then GOT HIT BY THE FINAL DAMN SPIKE THAT WAS THROWN.  DAMN IT ALL TO HELL!

Funny enough, usually when that happens the ending goes off anyways. If that happens to anyone don't worry about being lame. All attacks should die when it happens. i'll have to fix that up, but I have school stuff to get to.

I actually found the rotating lasers to be the hardest parts.  Just standing on the broken pillars and shooting/timing my jumps appropriately beat it on the fifth or sixth time I made it past the stupid lasers.

It did start getting tedious by the end though.  Probably because the rest of the Guy's Fortress was so varied and interesting, and it (comparitively) wasn't that difficult to progress.

Are you supposed to die during the credits, or was there something I did wrong?  I couldn't seem to move or shoot while the apple was falling.  Is that how the game ends?  I really don't want to play through the final boss again to see if I can find another way to avoid it.

I was mashing buttons throughout the entire credits, since I was expecting something to drop at any second.  This screwed up the sound at one point, and I assume it's why things didn't work.

It's all good though, I managed to do it again.

I'm cracking on with the Guy now but the lack of save point before the fight and the lengthy cut scene is demoralising. I've had a good day though seeing as I only had four bosses to my name before I started playing today. I think Zangief was harder to find than to kill but Dracula is the most fun part of the game so far I think. It's genius!

Epic Game. I think I've racked up 10 hours (not on the save screen just in general) and I've loved/hated every second!

S key to skip cutscenes.

I honestly felt something was lacking in most battles, possibly the nostalgia factor. I dunno, I need to think about it. None of the bosses felt very...interactive, if that makes sense. They all passively take your bullets. The Guy is sort of set up to be not as cool as other bosses, since he is an original character.

On a side note, Master-D needs to be in the hall of previous The Guys.

Argh, The Second Form\4th-6th phases are insane. So Far I've gotten to the second phase of the second form (5th phase who aren't going the way I do it ). I strongly dislike those fucking homing white..fireball things. I think the real thing that gets me is that I'm jumpy and I tend to panic, and wind up jumping into some other form of danger. I'm done for today but I think if I clear my head and try again tomorrow I can do it.

The thing is, with IWBTG, I find this game to be a combination of Pattern Recognition and Platforming. Once you figure out what to do, it becomes insanely easier to actually get past the obstacle. (At least, that's how it goes for me.)

The homing white balls were problematic for me when I tried to run around on the ground between the pillars.  Once I started just standing on the pillars and dodging fireballs purely with jumps, that part of the battle became relatively easy.  The white balls were exactly in the path I needed to shoot anyway.

The only part you really need to jump down is when he shoots spikes sometimes, or if the fireballs are going at exactly the wrong angle.  Otherwise, just pick a pillar and stick to it.
