Computer Problem, Help?

Alright, here's the deal:
My laptop has been crashing a lot giving me BSoDs (Blue Screen of Death). I turned it in to people to fix it. They got it fixed and now I'm on the Internet doing random stuff. The problem is that since I moved, I need to connect to the Internet by wifi. But, my laptop cannot dected any devices that has wifi.

Here's what I checked:
Wifi detection on laptop: ON
Wifi device power: ON
Make sure if the device is in range of my laptop: MY LAPTOP IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE DEVICE
Check to see if any other devices are interferring between my laptop and the device: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING INTERFERES

If any of you reading this knows the problem, PLEASE reply.

P.S. I am currently connected to the Internet by cables or whatever they're called. I also called the people who fixed my laptop, explained the problem, but they said that they had no idea what's causing it.

Wifi is my bane. I know how to address certain wired problems and software discrepancies, but I've always had trouble with my home wifi. That being said, there's likely to be many people here who can help you, so definitely hold out for an answer.

edit: You might actually connect to your router by entering its IP through your favorite browser and try changing the broadcasting channel, among other things. You never know, the smallest adjustment might be of some use. That being said, before making any changes, save a backup of your original settings.

Followed what you said, it didn't work...  :P
Tried seeing if there was a problem with the cable connecting to the router. We called some computer people and they said it was the cable. They replaced the cable and the internet worked.  :P

edit: The cable was the one attached to the router and the plug in the wall for the cable.

Ah, I see.

The filters on the cable you were using were probably causing a discrepancy. An easy fix, but still frustrating. I'm glad you got it fixed!
