Oxidation Numbers

Topic title irrelevant.

Anyways, have you guys noticed how certain users have extremely unique posting styles, while others just seem to blend in with the 'crowd' so much that you couldn't tell who it was unless you checked their username or avatar? One example of a 'unique' posting style is Ybbald's. Through his use of short, choppy sentences and severe lack of double spacing, Ybbald can be very easily identified no matter what he changes his username or his avatar to. Other "unique" posters that I've noticed include Rag (uses XD a lot), Valkama (condescending tone), Draco (long paragraphs), and Mark (longer paragraphs).

On the other hand, I've had a lot of trouble in the past differentiating between Venser and Evan for some reason. This is, of course, based on the merit of posting style alone - the two can easily be identified simply by checking their usernames or avatars (which my eyes are browsing too fast to do sometimes). Maybe it's because I wasn't here during the Golden Age of IWBTF, but personally I find it hard to differentiate between Venser and Evan because they both have a very dominating "I-am-your-god-now" tone of speech when they post. I've also had trouble picking out Mat and PonywithPasta whenever they switche usernames and / or avatars. Both seem to blend in with the 'crowd' really well in any topic.

The difference I find between Venser and Evan is Venser is more like a superior while Evan is more like and old buddy.

Hmm, I guess I'm the type of person who just adapts to the setting instead of trying to obnoxiously stand out. I wonder what I could do to become more unique and eye-catching.

Actually, I don't really post that much on the forums nowadays, so there's not much material to go with in the first place.

I have these recognizing problems too. Mark is easy to notice when he makes his trademark longposts, but not so much when making "normal"-length posts. Evan and Venser are hard to differentiate too, also including Ybbald's more serious posts.

Moving this shit to General because it's actually a good topic.

You guys should look at how different my early posts were. I didn't always have this style.

I think that applies for most of us. 4 years of growth and change really shows it's mark when you compare modern posts to the 2008era posts.

Hell even a year and a half and you can see how much more mature & jaded I've become in my posts.

I've noticed a huge change from my first posts on here as well, but to get back to the topic at hand, I've never had too much trouble deciphering who was who based on everyone's posting style. If in the golden age a Rule 48 was called (even before the rule system existed), if I was still confused who that person was, I'd look at their sig and last few posts to see "Ah, it was Venser who changed their name to Scholar." Besides, most of us on here usually change a username or avatar one at a time.
