I wanna be the random generator 1.7 (Update 10-07)
« on: June 19, 2012, 10:47:54 am »

Well, I worked on a random level generator here the last while... Please take it as my gift to this community, that's the reason I made it.
Here's a link to my website: http://olivebates.tumblr.com/

None the less, here's a vote for what you'd want in the next update:
http://www.learnmyself.com/poll1985xb4FB4224-1

Update 1.7
+ Added ability to save and load levels
> If you find any interesting levels, feel free to post them here. If I get enough cool levels, I might make a Community Level Pack and publish it on the front page.
+ Revamped generation code, for a tighter and sexier design
+ Tweaked all sliders to give better slider control
+ Made Jump difficulty on hardest twice as hard
+ Made Jump difficulty on easiest twice as easy
+ Made Orientation on up actually go up
+ Made Extra Jumps on max still have a few platforms
+ Gave Extra Jumps slider generally have better control
+ Fixed bug with blocks obstructing the path
+ Fixed bug where loader percentage would exceed 100%
+ Added Custom Levels directory
~ Renamed Jump Complexity to Creativity
- Removed Herobrine

I just played this and it's actually of surprisingly good quality. Although of course it still need quite a bit of work.
Some suggestions:
Levels take a long time to generate, even on my computer. Would it be possible to have them be smaller and therefore generate faster? (I've never got to the end of one.)
The nice sliders allowing you to choose what kind of level you generate are great. Sadly however it seems that there's no a lot of range they can go between as all levels are really hard. Also it seems to only affect the spawn area in many cases. For example if I set spikes to "none" (although there's still a few) as I progress I will quickly find a load of spikes again.
It'd be nice if you didn't respawn straight away after dying. I often die again by not letting go of an arrow key fast enough after dying.
It seems if you die a lot the game starts to lag. Try and just run into a spike near where you start over and over and you'll see the game leaks getting slower and slower with each death. I'd guess that this is to do with your method of resetting the level after you die. Maybe you are in fact creating another copy of the level over the old one?
As you said, the levels can sometime be impossible. This is a little annoying, maybe you could allow the player to skip ahead a few times in cases like this?
You can fall really, really fast. Could you limit the max fall speed?
If you hold down the jump key you jump higher. This is fine normally but I don't think it should happen with your double jump. It seems strange.

I really like the graphics and the little flaming torches. ^^
It's a fun game as a whole but it can't really keep my interest that long at the moment due to the things mentioned above.

It's a great idea though. Keep up the good work!

This is awesome! I was hoping someone would program an IWB-game like this.

Just one thing: Would it be a lot of work to implement WASD-controls as well (or adjustable controls in general)?

Thanks.

Any other plans to develop this game further? Like adding more kinds of obstacles or creating an actual game with different worlds that throw new combos of obstacletypes at the player or something like that?

Also, like zeapawak said, sometimes the goal is impossible to reach. Maybe you could take another look at that.

Nice, I'll be following this game's progress with great interest.

Also, I just gave version 1.2 a try. The adjustable controls work perfectly, but there appears to be a problem with the map size slider.

Nice game so far. I've tried from easy to hard levels. It works pretty well. I wish the kid could look just a bit better. Also, will you add music one time? Kinda meh without music to listen to. But good game so far, hoping to see what you add next to it. Good luck on it.

... I dont see where the problem is(?)

Wellp, I am trying to find a way that I can have sound files, and not having the .exe filling 100MB... It's quite difficult with Game Maker (Without using extern files).

I wish the kid could look just a bit better.

But I like Tom D:!

Yeah, he looks nice. I'm just not used to that sprite of him. I'll get used to it as I play this more just like the other games. Keep up the work lol.
