Final Save? (Spolilers)

I'm not sure if this has been asked already, or if I'm just being incredibly stupid: Is there a save point that works (doesn't kill you) in between the Tower of The Guy and The Guy himself? It seems to me that there should be and I just overlooked it, given the hundreds of times one must fight the guy to win. Help?

The save point that kills you actually is the final save. You just need to shoot it a lot and it will turn into a normal save point.
