IWBTG on consoles?
« on: June 20, 2013, 01:09:17 pm »

So i was thinking: is IWBTG on consoles a good idea? On one hand, a console would allow more actions, more bosses, and more obstacles. On the other hand, a joystick or d-pad would make it hard to do pinprick movement, which IWBTG requires.
Please discuss.

It could happen if someone made it on Homebrew. But since the Wii is getting old, I doubt someone would make an app  :-\

See: Battle Kid and the sequel. That's about as good as you'll get unless you go full on Touhou on that motherfucker.

It wouldn't actually allow any more actions or bosses or obstacles. Unless you mean that it could then be sold so Kayin (the creator) would have more money to fund into working on IWBTG.

Otherwise a computer is more than capable of more bosses etc.

At the moment as IWBTG is written with MMF2 (a game making program, a little like Gamemaker) this would make it very difficult to port to any consoles (I would think).

Also as IWBTG uses much copyrighted assets (graphics and music) it would basically need to be licensed by Nintendo for it to be at all legal (as they own the assets).

A homebrew (non-official) original game is a lot more possible but unless someone wants to re-write IWBTG (I'm kind of thinking about it still) it would have to be a new game in the style of IWBTG. We already have games like this such as Battle Kid and the IWBTG Fangame for an Android smart phone.

Hopefully that kind of answers the question.

oh, yeah. didn't think about that. Maybe a sequel could be on, if they used completely non-copyrighted assets, maybe an easter egg (like a megaman suit, or a secret boss somewhere that's a reference.

IWBTG in 3D for PS2, Xbox or Wii would be okay.

There are basically no advantages for me, as a developer, for working on consoles. More limitations, more headaches, blahblahblabhalh. Most PCs beat the pants off the current generation of consoles. The only reason current console games can look as good as they do is because of absurd optimization that I would not have access too. Also most of that power is primed for displaying 3d.

So the only advantage to IWBTG on console would be exposure and the ability for people to play the game on their TVs. considering I lose the exposure advantage due to all the copyright infringement (I'd have to be homebrew stuff), the only advantage is you guys could well... play on consoles.

... Which, outside the fact that I don't have the technical expertise to do so to begin with, is dumb and I don't care.

Actually you could just download the game on a laptop and connect an HDMI cable, and voila.

Why would that make a difference to you? If you want to you can use an xbox controller and put it on your TV?
