Five Nights at Freddy's
« on: March 28, 2015, 10:38:06 am »

Well, I have seen some users in this forum (specially RebornIsaac) like this game, so I just opened this thread for you fans of FNAF to share your knowings. (Bad english there?)

PS: I know there are FNAF forums, but I like most this forum.

Generic point and click with a repetitive game play style and shitty jump scares. That's literally the only scare factor in the game. No ambience or nothing.

The story, however, is absolutely entriguing and keeps you hooked. Left some unanswered questions, but the story is amazing.

I agree with SOME jumpscares being lame (FNAF 1) but FNAF 2 scared the crap out of me. You don't know what is coming and where. The 10 or 11 animatronics attack you while you wind up that freaking music box. Like, you are checking for any animatronic, ex: Freddy and suddenly, another random animatronic, ex: Toy Chica, appears from NOWHERE and really scares you.

I have to give props to Scott for making the third game way more ambient-focused. I musy admit, the withered Mangle/Maniorette for creating a tad more of a creep-factor. Not only this, but Balloon Boy/Freddy were pretty 'scary', if you will. This being said, however, it is still overwhelmingly repetitive and shitty.

I'm trying hard to give the gameplay justice, but it just can't. It's lazy.

Jumpscares are just a poor excuse to make a game scary. I think the ambience and atmosphere adds more of an effect than just a scary looking monster appearing out of nowhere,.

Hence why I still prefer Amnesia over these new 'horror' games

Well, seems I'm not going to change your opinion whatever I do, unless Scott releases FNAF 4 and completely changes the gameplay.
And Marionette sticking to your face in FNAF 3 was very creepy.
And probably you'll agree with me in this: Springtrap's jumpscares are lame.

You should totally check out the Half Life 1 mod called "Afraid Of Monsters" too. It's insane. Though you need to install half life first and set up the mod so it can take a long time bu it's worth it.

If by the animation/scream being lame on that way is what you mean, then yes.

Maybe Scott could make fnaf 4 based on Fredbear's Diner, and making it free-roam (playing as one of the kids running away from the Purple Guy or something). It would truly be the final nail in the coffin for the series.

I've seen Troy Wagner/Tim Sutton from Marble Hornets do a LP of it. Have to try it myself.

First one isn't scary, but I like it, because I like management games. It's good at that part, not at the horror part.
Haven't played FNAF2, but I have played 3 and that at least had some scare factor to it, especially the Springtrap shadow. The jumpscares were lame in both games though, and I still don't consider 3 a good horror game.
