TL:DR version - Post here in case you want X thread moved or locked, or if Member Y needs to be told to stop something.Hello everyone, your friendly neighborhood Chef Excellence® speaking! I wish that I were unveiling a new Stay Fresh product for the world to enjoy, but instead I'm here to talk and discuss the state that these forums seem to be in.
Far be it from me to say it, but these forums aren't as popular as they once were.
By taking a look over the stats, you'll be able to see that the numbers are slowly but surely dwindling for number of post counts. Many people that once frequented the site no longer do so for many reasons, including a good portion of the staff appointed to remain in charge of the boards. I'll be honest myself, I don't spend time reading posts as often as I used to either, but it doesn't mean that I don't ever come back to the site at all, just 98% of the time I really have nothing interesting to say.
What really prompted me to make a new post was Infern0's run for Admin 2015, as it's a yearly tradition at IWBTF to go forward into the runnings (as overseen by the current staff) and
proove the justice of our culture prove themselves as worthy candidates for why they should be in charge. That got me to thinking about a few things, but I'll provide a rundown of how it played out in my head...
Do we really need more admins/mods at this point, regardless of how many of them show up on a regular basis? Well... no, we don't. We seem to do pretty well at self-policing each other as to knowing what should and shouldn't be appropriate to post. We have a Crap board for a reason, even though not too much of it is good by any standards it does serve a purpose for posting random news articles and other findings from the internet here that instead would be clogging up any of the other boards. Sure, a few things can get out of hand that would require immediate attention (Derf and his Whammys, for instance), but for the most part threads either die out naturally or get locked by the OP/mods if it gets too out of hand.
But say we do get another admin/mod signed up, it would only provide a temporary solution to what is ultimately a permanent problem. One of the main reasons I got instated with very select mod powers was to take care of the bots that drowned the forums in shitty ads when Kayin updated the forums back in February 2014, and I did my diligence into making sure every last one of them had been taken care of, as well as getting rid of any and all of the posts they had spammed. Since then, the only thing I've done of note was also take care of cleaning up after the Whammy mess later the same year, and it was only then that I stepped up and actually banned someone that was deserving of such, and only for a week at that.
Does that mean I'm upset that I haven't gotten to use my powers that often? Far from it, it means that this place is usually doing so well on its own (even with the lack of people posting) that it doesn't need that much attention anymore. But I wanted you guys to know that even though I don't ever post anymore, I'm still here and I can still take care of things when needed if you just let me know about it, so this thread is dedicated to just that.
Accidentally post a thread in the wrong board? Let me know and I'll move it for you!
Joke thread gone too far and is just beating a dead horse? Let me know and I'll preserve it in a Stay Fresh Thread Bag™ to keep it from spoiling any further!
Someone posting the same, unfunny comment on every thread they come across, and I somehow miss it? Call them out here so that I can call them out on their actions! (Most likely a good talking to, but it depends on my mood)Please feel free to let me know if this is what this community needs, or if I'm going about this the wrong way. I want to be here for you guys, you just need to let me know how I can make myself useful!
EDIT after the first response:

INFERN0 2015
EXHIBIT A: WHAT NOT TO DO IN A GENERAL DISCUSSION THREAD.
I'll go ahead and mention it here- I get an e-mail shot to my phone any time someone posts here, as I want to take this matter seriously (unless absolutely no one else does), but until then, we must maintain at least some sort of professionalism. Yes, the tag mentions it's unrelated, but without any sort of follow-up the post is meaningless. Fine if it's in a Crap thread, but not here. Especially not this thread.
