Dance Dance Revolution!
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:53:56 pm »

Anyone else play?
I'm pretty good. I can Heavy about half of Supernova.
I still haven't tried like 20% of the songs, tho'.

Daikenkai, Jerk It Out, Un Deux Trois, You're Not Here, and A are my usual songs.

I played them both. Trust me. Even the pads locations are better

I like DDR, ive never played pump it up but having 5 steps doesnt sound as fun, i like the idea of 4 steps, and i bet DDR has better songs.

The location of the pads feel more natural, and DDR songs (most of it) are teh lose

Stepmania is better than either.

Seriously, I prefer DDR simply for a broader variety, and because there's slightly less elitism in the community. I can do about half the heavies in supernova's PS2 version. Speed crushes me, though.

I really love the stepmania stuff, not so much for the actual play, as the fun in design. I collect strangely patterned songs.

DDR: Good for Casual Play
ITG: Good for Difficulty
PIU: Good for Style

Which one you like can also be dependent on your music taste. Personally I play DDR. All the songs i like in ITG are too hard (11+) and i have no access to PIU

Stepmania has all of it, IF you have pads that will plug into your computer. Otherwise (to me) its a completely different game that you play with your fingers.

Well put, Cyclone. I technically have a pad that can do that, but not enough space to use it. The downside to stepmania is that there's 3 stepcharts for every song, and a thousand million billion UBERHRAD BOSSSONGGS all over the place, few of them well done.

In my DDR prime (this was just after extreme came out) I was ranked 3rd in Canada and....15th in NA? Somewhere around there, between 15-20.

I still play, just not as competitively as I used to. I was the first person in Canada to pass Chaos on Supernova AC, but only by like 3hrs. I'll be the first to clear most of the OMESes on Supernova 2 when it comes in as well I'm sure.

I also play ITG and PIU so that I can get the best of all worlds instead of forming a senseless allegiance to one or the other. I mean really, "lol ddr suks, ITG is pro!" or "5 panel is gay" or other ridiculous statements are getting tiresome.

Scorekeeping ruined the stompy-arrow-game community, and it'll never recover. When people hit two Excellent®s on something under 10blocks in difficulty, and force quit instead of playing the song, you know something is seriously wrong.

The game is no longer for fun, it's for lengthening your e-penis over something that in the long run, will not matter at all. This is a large reason why I started playing less frequently.

The state of the game is also apparent through how pathetically bad players are at reading stuff as elementary as crossovers. When we were playing old DDR, like 3rd mix, we were doing everything no bar, 1x, and the way it was supposed to be, crossovers and everything. Now, you have everyone refusing to do anything that doesn't keep their body totally centred, they refuse to turn at all, and honestly can't even read/don't know how to do crossovers. They play on shit like 4-5x mini because they can't read 1x or anything below freaking 400bpm, it's really pathetic.

We knew how to do that shit before we even graduated to maniac/heavy. The problem is that everyone just jumps to expert/heavy, learns nothing technical, and one-foots everything. The style behind the game is gone because everyone plays for score.

When I put crossovers in my simfiles, everyone has a genuinely hard time reading them. What's so hard about l,u,r,l,d,r, it's in freaking Afronova.....and nobody even knows how to do Afronova properly anymore.

I could go on and on about my disgust with the state of the game.

I occasionally play at 1.5 speed just to keep 1/4 and 1/2 steps away from each other, but that's as far as I'll go with that. I still genuinely enjoy playing the game, but I hate playing with the hardcore players because they're all laughing at people who get on just to try. I waited to graduate to Heavy until after I could get about 7/8 of the songs on Standard, and I figured that that would be a good amount. It's no use playing below your level, as evidenced by the fact that even tho' I couldn't Standard Sakura, I was able to Heavy Daikenkai fairly easily.
