During my playthrough, I've had an average of getting to 1-2 saves a day, and slowly progressing onwards no matter how difficult the challenge. The only areas that held me up longer than usual were Mother Brain, Zangeif, and the G&G area as a whole. Those took me multiple days, but I always got through them. The Guy, on the other hand, was a giant brick wall in the middle of the road that was my steady progress. I've been on him for about ~2 weeks. Recently I realized that

If you kill the evil save you get a save right before the guy

though, so I've been making a lot more progress on him.

So yeah, the guy tops my list as the hardest area, especially because of that spoiler that I didn't know about for a week, which made trying to beat him border on tedious.

Mecha Birdo on Very Hard.  Wait, that's not true.  The orb room after Mecha Birdo on Very Hard.  The only save is the screen after the spike corridor, so you have to trudge through the latter half of G&G and beat Birdo again.  And after all that?  One fussy, pixel-perfect jump under a warhead before the next save.  I can never make that jump.

I've never missed that jump. It's so easy.

Mother Brain on very hard is annoying, tho'.

I envy you.

And, Mother Brain on Very Hard isn't any different from Hard.  It isn't any different from Medium either.  There's no save afterwards, yes, but the escape is just some easy jumping.

I can't decide between the Ghosts n Goblins segment and the Mother Brain battle. Both are the bitchiest parts for me to get through.

Yeah, but just one slip-up in the escape and you have to redo the entire thing again.

Ghosts and Goblins by far. No other part took me like 4 hours to get past one set of spikes.  :fruit:

Now that I've played through it on Medium and on Hard... I don't really know which part is the hardest anymore.  I used to agree with the other 90% of this forum who hates the spike corridor in G&G, but I've got that thing *down* now after watching Kayin's playthrough once.

I'd definitely say my worst favorite boss is Dracula by far, but the Castlevania section is a cinch, I think...

If secret rooms counted, then I would probably mention that it took me freaking forever to figure out the wall jumping skillz needed for the third (or fourth?) secret item.  The whole thing in the room with the couches, just before you get to the right side of the entrance to the Guy's castle.

But... I'll give Dracula the credit due his homing-cherry-shooting name; Castlevania area on Very Hard, for the win.

Hmn, I didn't find the game hard per se, but that's a long story for if I write a review or something. If I had to say there were was a hardest part(and I've only played in hard so far so lack of save points may change my opinion later), it would be getting to mother brain. I have poor close range vision, and tend to miss a few of those little orange donut things. That's not really a spoiler, is it?

I went back and played it, and now i would say getting to the dragon on  very hard is the hardest. The minecart ride was bad enough...

Pfft. I got through the mine cart and the entire palace in under an hour on Very Hard. Mother Brain took me like 4.

Hehe, well said! I love the minecart ride... The music was relaxing duck tales tunes, the jumps were fun, it just felt nostalgic and classy. But mother brain... Eh, well, mother brain was fun too, just difficult.

Also, Cheez speaks the truth.
