Fangame: The Game: The Forums:
http://fangame.vertigofx.comWell, I'm updating this post after so long. What to say about Fangame? I guess I can start by admitting that Fangame has been in development hell for some time now, what with me taking my months-at-a-time-long breaks and such. However, I'm back and this time I'm not stopping until it gets finished. But first, some clarifications...
Fangame: The Game is my first-ever actual game. I say "actual game" because I have designed some prototypes in the past that never really made it to true game-dom. Anyway, as such, there are a lot of things wrong with it beneath the surface. It's earned a rather loyal fan base and they want to see it finished but what they don't see is the trouble with the coding and the sloppy foundation on which it was built. I have changed my mind again and again as to whether I would complete it or abandon the project altogether, and I've had ample reasons for either decision.
The good news for the fans is that I've decided to continue the project until completion. The only bad news is that it probably won't be quite as epic as I had originally had the vision for. There are many ideas and ambitions that I had for Fangame and if I follow those ambitions for this particular project, I'll just be adding to the weight on what is already built on a faulty foundation. Don't worry, though. That's not to say that I am going to be completely lazy with it. I will still have fun with the design and continue to throw some fun and challenging levels your way in Fangame. However, I think I'll save the more ambitious... ambitions... for my next game, which I'll be sure to build with a stronger foundation using all I have learned through my experiences with this project.
I'm not going to lie to you. I don't like not being the best at something. When I started this project, I had dreamed of it being the best IWBTG-style game of its time. I suppose if it were finished in its time, that may have been true. Instead, I let time slip by and other amazing indie game developers stepped in and took the spotlight. Yeah, I know I shouldn't have had such arrogant ambitions in the first place, but it gave me something to work toward. I've learned, though, that it really isn't about being the best at anything, honestly. What matters is making something that entertains people. Fangame HAS fans, and I've heard much more good than bad, so I must be doing something right.
As I sit here at my computer, waaaay past my bed time, I thank each and every one of you for giving me the inspiration and motivation to continue this project, and I hope that you'll enjoy it a lot!
